Burlington Apartment Fire

Burlington, Ia-  At 1:50 PM on Wednesday the Burlington Fire Department responded to a fire in a brick building at Elm and S. 3rd Streets in Burlington. Upon the arrival of the fire department 4 minutes later there was light smoke coming from the east side of the building.

Firefighters located the fire on a couch in apartment 3 and it was quickly extinguished. There was no one home at the time of the fire.

The 6 unit apartment building is owned by EZ MAC Properties of Burlington. Fire damage was limited to the couch with some minor smoke damage to neighboring apartments. There were no working smoke detectors located.

The most likely cause of the fire is improperly discarded smoking material. The fire remains

under investigation by the Burlington Fire and Police Departments. BPD Collected at least one item from the scene pertaining to the investigation.  Firefighters remained on the scene until 3:02 PM, no injuries were reported.
