Obituaries for Thursday October 17th

Shirley Lou Smyth, 92, of Burlington, died at 3:13 PM Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born May 5, 1927, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Milo and Margaret Behne Garrison. On June 6, 1948, she married George Edward Smyth in Burlington. He passed July 27, 2007.

She worked in many different places in Burlington, including the Telephone Co., Sylvania, Antennacraft and Conifer Corp.

She was a member of First Christian Church. She loved family get to-gethers for birthdays and every holiday. She and her husband George loved their model T and car club gatherings. They loved to travel together after their retirement.

Survivors include her son, Jerry (Catherine) Smyth of Omaha, NE; daughter, Cheryl (Kenneth) Rosenbury of Topeka, KS; grandson, James (Joni) Rosenbury and 4 great grandchildren of Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Karen (Alex) Bloemer and 3 great grandchildren of Omaha, NE.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Smyth will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation for 96 year old Lucille Rauhaus of Mediapolis will be Friday, October 18, 2019, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral Home, formerly the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. Family will also greet friends from 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis. Funeral services for Lucille will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis. Interment will be in the Oakville Apostolic Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church.

Daniel F. Robbins, 78, of Grandview, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the church. Burial will be in the West Liberty Old Stone Cemetery in Sperry. Daniel Floyd Robbins was born on October 1, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa the son of Floyd Earl and Elizabeth (Long) Robbins. On August 5, 1962, Daniel was united in marriage to Norma Bryant in Biggsville, Illinois. He worked for HON Industry for 32 years as a welder. Daniel enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, watching Westerns and was an avid Cubs/Hawkeye fan.

Daniel will be deeply missed by his wife, Norma of Grandview; his children, Daniel DeWayne “Bub” (Michelle) Robbins of Oakville, Robin LuAnn (Leo Jr.) Axtell of Grandview, Angela Jean Robbins and significant other, Tim Hathaway of Grandview, JoAnna Lynn (Mark) Bennett of Wapello and Denise Danielle (Jason) Loose of Blue Grass; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two nieces, Diana Kay Beall of Blue Springs, Missouri and Sandy Mullens of Monmouth, Illinois.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Johnathan; half-sister, Virginia I. (Robert) Smith and half-brother, Bill Robbins.

Cecile Marie Graber, 95, of Burlington, died at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Burlington Care Center.
Born September 27, 1924 in Trenton, IA, she was the daughter of John Raymond and Ida May (Schadt) Ridinger. She married Kenneth Wayne Graber on March 21, 1945 in Trenton, IA. He died October 11, 2005.
Cecile was of the Christian faith.
She was a homemaker. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, flowers and enjoyed music.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Widmer of Wayland, IA and Rebecca (Fred) Barrionuevo of Cedar Falls, IA; one son, Daniel (Betty) Graber of Burlington, IA; one grandson, Todd (Marcia) Widmer of Iowa City, IA; and two great granddaughters, Sadie and Claire.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son-in-law, Stanley Widmer.
The funeral service for Mrs. Graber will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 21st at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Jim Hughes will officiate. Interment will be in Green Mound Cemetery, Trenton, IA. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service, where family will receive friends.
A memorial has been established for Green Mound Cemetery.
