Montrose Ia-  The Lee County Sheriff’s office will be holding a takeback event for citizen’s unwanted prescription drugs.  This is the department’s 18th drug takeback event in the past 9 years.  This event is held to help prevent prescription drug abuse by taking in unwanted and unused prescription medication.

According to a press release, last fall Americans turned in nearly 470 tons of prescription drugs at thousands of sites operated by the DEA, and thousands more operated by local law enforcement.

This initiative is to address the issue of prescription drug abuse by removing extra medication from homes.  This is a much safer option than leaving them around or throwing them in the toilet or into the trash, which could present several different hazards.

The takeback event will be held Saturday, October 26th from 10 am until 2 pm at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
