Burlington, Ia- With the upcoming Burlington City Council elections, KBUR had the opportunity to sit down with one of the three candidates for the two opening city council seats.

Chris Roepke is a local pastor has been a Burlington Resident since 1994 and also serves a chaplain for the Burlington Police Department.  He wants to run for city council because he feels the city is spending grant money in the wrong place.  He feels that the grant money that the city has received should be spent on other things besides downtown.

“The older neighborhoods need a lot of help, and for example putting money into new things doesn’t necessarily help the old.  Even though you may have a nicer downtown, it doesn’t help overall, the city.”

And Roepke feels that he can make a difference in the city council because he can make a difference for the whole city.

“I think they should vote for me because I’m interested in the city as a whole.  Yes we can put some money for TIGER grant towards downtown, but you have to remember the older neighborhoods”

Interviews with the other city council candidates will be on the way before the first council forum.  Full Interviews with all three candidates will be aired on KBUR before the city elections.
