Obituaries for Tuesday November 5th

Bessie Marie Weak, 82 of Burlington died at 8:54 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Great River Hospice House.
Born August 14, 1937 in Philip, S.D., she was the daughter of Samuel and Selma (Pearson) Darmer. She married James Lewis Weak on July 23, 1955 in Mediapolis, IA. He died September 18, 2002.
Bessie was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
She worked as a dietary aide for Burlington Care Center and at Sylvania and Winegard. She was still active with the luncheon retiree group of Winegard. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, and playing Bingo.
Survivors include four children, Corinne Powell, Larry Weak, Elden (Rhonda) Weak, all of Burlington, and Mark (Kristine) Weak of Cedar Falls, IA; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Roberta (Carl) Stoneoff of Oakville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The graveside service and inurnment for Mrs. Weak will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6th at Wapello Cemetery. Rev. Paul E. Walker will officiate.
According to Bessie’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House, in care of Lunning Chapel, 2620 Mt. Pleasant St., Burlington, IA 52601.

Brent P. Fritz, 57 of West Burlington died from complications of cancer at 11:07 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Born May 10, 1962 in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Verald “Ping” P. and Glennis Ruth (Kerr) Fritz.
He graduated from West Burlington High School and Southeastern Community College with an Associate’s Degree.
Brent worked for LaVeine Sanitation Services as a driver, starting when he was 16 years old.
He was of the Christian faith.
He was active in 4-H and enjoyed the Des Moines County Fair. He created many happy memories with his family, especially his nieces and nephews, and the people on his route.
Survivors include one brother, Eric Fritz, of West Burlington; two sisters, Keri Fritz of West Burlington and Sara (Kevin) Wilkins of Mackinaw, IL.; eight nieces and nephews, Peter Fritz, Jacob Fritz, Jonah Fritz, Courtney Brown, Kyla Horne, Erika Wilkins, Karly Wilkins, and Kolin Wilkins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
The celebration of life visitation for Brent will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7th at Lunning Chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Per his request, his corneas have been deeded for medical research.
A memorial for West Burlington Alumni Association has been established.
