West Burlington, Ia (The Hawk Eye)- A High-Speed chase began at about 11:42 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Walmart.
According to court documents, a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to assist the West Burlington Police Department in reference to a stolen vehicle that happened to be equipped with OnStar, which was located at 203 W. Agency Road.
The Hawk Eye reports that When the deputy located the vehicle and activated his emergency lights, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, exiting the parking lot onto Broadway Street, then went east on West Avenue at a high speed.
Deputies continued to follow the vehicle until reaching Roosevelt and West avenues, where it ran a red light and the chase was terminated out of concern for public safety and road conditions.
OnStar later located the vehicle at 2111 S. 15th St. The service also disabled the vehicle prior to officers’ arrival at that address.
39-year-old homeless man Larry Dean Weir was found in the back yard of 1508 Hedge St. After a brief struggle, Weir told officers where the key to the vehicle could be found.
He is being held in the Des Moines County jail in lieu of a $66,000 b
