Burlington School Principal dies in car wreck

Burlington, Ia (The Hawk Eye)-  The Burlington School District is mourning the loss of a beloved administrator.  Christopher Richards, Principal at Black Hawk Elementary School died in a car accident on Thursday morning.

The Hawk Eye reports the accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. According to Iowa State Patrol’s crash report, Richards was traveling south on U.S. 61 when he attempted to turn left onto Mason Road, pulling into the path of a northbound pick-up truck being driven by 37-year-old Randy Allen Tedrow of Douds. Another person, 27-year-old Eugene Bontrager of rural Van Buren County, was injured and taken by private vehicle to Great River Medical Center. According to the report, neither Richards nor Bontrager were wearing a seatbelt. The accident remains under investigation by Iowa State Patrol.

Flags throughout the school district were lowered to half-staff Friday in honor or Richards.
