City Council Elects New Mayor

Burlington, Ia-  At their first official meeting of the new year on Monday, the Burlington City Council selected the newest Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem of Burlington.

As the meeting opened the first thing on the agenda was a nomination and vote by the Council as to who would fill the offices of Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem.

With a nomination from Councilman Bill Maupin and a unanimous vote, City Councilman Jon Billups was elected as the newest Mayor of Burlington.

After his appointment both Councilman Matt Rinker and Councilwoman Lynda Graham -Murray were nominated for the position of Mayor Pro-Tem, with Graham Murray winning the vote by a 3 to 2 margin.

Graham-Murray said that she had been urged to run for Mayor, but declined to do so.
