Burlington, Ia- At approximately 7:30 PM Sunday the Burlington Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 1306 S. 12th Street in Burlington. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke showing with flames coming from the rear of a one-story wood-frame house. The fire was mostly contained to the attic and firefighters brought the fire under control just before 9 PM.
The single-family home, owned and occupied by Dane Fenton, sustained extensive fire and smoke damage. Damage estimates exceed $20,000 to the structure and $4,500 in contents, but the property was insured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department and is not considered suspicious. However, Firefighters discovered that there were no working smoke alarms inside the home.
