Ottumwa, Ia (KYOU TV) – Friday’s stand-off with Ottumwa Police that led to a local middle school entering a lock-down situation, ended without incident.
On Friday morning, Ottumwa Police responded to what was initially a domestic dispute in the 300 block of North Pocahontas Street, just across the road from Evans Middle School.
Upon further investigation, the police alerted school officials of a potentially dangerous situation, which prompted the school to enter a lock-down. As the incident continued to unfold, school officials decided it would be best to let students out early, as the police went on with their investigation.
The all-day stand-off continued into the night, even after the emergency response team was called in. Authorities made multiple attempts at safely contacting the subject inside the home.
At around 7 PM, the man was finally taken into custody without incident. He was then transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center for a mental health evaluation
