Obituaries for Monday February 17th

Linda Steele, 66, of Burlington, died at 10:30 AM Thursday, February 13, 2020, at her home in Burlington.

Born July 4, 1953, in Sioux City, IA, she was the daughter of Peggy Hoeppner. She married Ron Steele in Burlington. They later divorced.

Linda was a homemaker, she worked out of the home at Crowley & Bunger law office as a paralegal and later she tended bar at The Maple Leaf Tavern.

She always enjoyed socializing, watching television, especially crime stories and the show Law and Order. She loved to travel, and taking boat rides on the Mississippi River with her friends.

Survivors include her mother, Peggy Hoeppner of Fremont, NE; one daughter, Stacy (Gavin) Bliesener of Farmington, IL, three sons, Corey (Jody) Hobmeier, Jesse (Jennifer) James both of Estherville, IA, Jacob (Sam) Steele of San Antonio, TX; seven grandchildren, Caitlin, Alexis, Jace, Jagar, Brooklynn, Madison, Noah, and one on the way; two brothers, Lance (Robin) Juarez of Arlington, NE, and Gary Hoeppner of Burlington; two nieces and two nephews..

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home 3940 Division St. Burlington, Iowa

A memorial has been established in her name.

Robert John Vantiger, 82, of Mt Union, passed away at 1:42 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Great River Medical Center Klein Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Dodgeville. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, Mt. Union. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Mediapolis, formerly The Hagele and Honts Funeral Home. Robert John Vantiger was born on February 17, 1937 in West Point, Iowa, the son of Ben and Angela Vantiger. The family moved to Mt. Union where Bob graduated in 1955 from Yarmouth High School. He was in the National Guard at Burlington. Bob enjoyed farming and fixing things and had a radiator shop.

Bob married Frieda Sandburg at St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington. They were blessed with 3 children, John (Jodi) Vantiger of Mount Union, Teresa (Mick) Friedel of Mediapolis and Tom (Lori) Vantiger of Peosta; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Ross and Whitney Vantiger, Justin and Matt Friedel and Aubrey, Bryn and Katlyn Vantiger. He is also survived by siblings, Jim Vantiger and Fred Vantiger of Mount Union and Wilma Anderson of Mediapolis.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Judith H. Hatt-Gall, 81, of Burlington died Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Pearl Valley Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Muscatine.
Born October 11, 1937 in Fairfield, Iowa she was the daughter of Harry and Dottie “Dorothy” (Manley) Hatt. She married Richard Gall on August 23, 1958.
Judith worked as a Registered Nurse for Klein Hospital, Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center for over 40 years.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
She loved animals and enjoyed drawing, she was a great artist. She played the piano and keyboard and loved spending time outdoors tending to her yardwork and gardens. Time spent with her family and grandchildren was precious to her.
She is survived by her husband Richard Gall of Muscatine; two children Tim (Alisa) Gall and Lynnette (Rick) Gillis both of Burlington; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister Denise of Burlington and one brother Skip of Omaha, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Kari Gall and one brother Michael Hatt.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Gall will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 18th at St. John Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. Music provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 17th at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 7:00 p.m.
Memorials have been established for the Parkinson’s Foundation or St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
