Obituaries for Monday February 24th

Nichole Elizabeth Wolf Smith, 50, of Danville, died at 6:02 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at her home.
Born April 11, 1969 in Madison, WI, she was the daughter of William John and Elizabeth “Hedy” (Roshardt) Wolf. She married Monte Paul Smith August 21, 1999 in Muscoda, WI.
Nichole graduated from Poynette High School and the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Industrial Engineering. She played the trumpet in the university’s marching band. A favorite memory was marching in the Rose Bowl Parade.
She worked in quality control at ConAgra in Montrose, and as an industrial engineer for Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids.
She was a member of Long Creek United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.
Nichole was very active in her children’s lives. She was a Girl Scout and Cub/Boy Scout Leader, softball coach, and 4-H Leader. She enjoyed playing the piano, downhill skiing, and loved cats. Her favorite pastimes were reading to her children and attending their events.
Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Monte; son, Drake Smith, daughter, Elizabeth Smith, all of Danville; parents, William and Hedy of Poynette, WI; four siblings, Aaron Wolf, Andi Hansen, Joey Hartzell, and Ben Wolf; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
The memorial service for Nichole will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 28th at Lunning Chapel. Rev. David Mixon will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for the children’s education.

Mr. Rickey Steven McAlister, 60, of Middletown died at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa.
Born January 11, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa, he was the son of Gene Leslie and Norma J. (Sinner) McAlister. He married Cathy Sturms on March 7, 2019 in Danville.
Rickey graduated in 1978 from Danville High School, and attended Drake University.
He participated in sports, including football, basketball, and track. He still holds the pole vault record at Danville High School. He played in softball tavern leagues and was an all-around outdoorsman.
For 25 years he worked as a Union Electrician for Local 13.
Survivors include his hunting buddy “Buckshot” (BS); his wife, Cathy McAlister of Middletown; one stepson, Ty (Bobbie); three grandchildren; two sisters, Debra Shepard and Leslie Fraise of New London; two brothers, Mick (Dee) McAlister of Cedar Rapids and Barry McAlister of Burlington; several nieces and nephews. He was known to his nieces and nephews as Uncle Unbelievable.
He was preceded in death by his parents and dog, Rowdy.
The memorial service for Rickey will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 29th at Lunning Chapel. Glenda Sue Myers will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. A luncheon will be held at IBEW Local 13, 1205 North Central Avenue, Burlington, Iowa.
According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.

Norma Jeanne Vaughn, of Lomax, IL, passed away Friday night, February 21, 2020, at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center in Stronghurst, Illinois.
Jeanne was born July 8, 1928, in Pontoosuc, IL, the daughter of H. Ray and Nellie M. (Little) Clark. On April 3, 1955, she married Donald R. Vaughn, of Lomax.
Jeanne was a 1946 graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school, she worked in the cashier department of Sheaffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison, IA. After marriage, Jeanne became a homemaker and enjoyed being outdoors and tending to her garden. She served as a Lomax Township election judge and was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR racing. Jeanne was an active member of the Lomax Christian Church. Her greatest joys in life were her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include Don, her husband of 64 years, and children Donna (Brian) Anderson of Fishers, IN, Diana (Dale) Helling of Iowa City, IA, Denise (Chris) Hanley of Peoria, IL, and Lance (Danielle) Vaughn, of Altoona, IA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Drew Helling, Meagan and Erin Hanley, and Katie and Lauren Vaughn, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in law, Bernice and Wesley Dunn; and nephew, Clark Dunn.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, with Pastor Maxine Dennison officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of services at the funeral home. Per her wishes, Jeanne was cremated, and inurnment at Crane Cemetery in Lomax will be held at a later date.
