Department of Homeland Security extends Real-ID Enforcement Deadline

Washington-  The Department of homeland security has extended the enforcement deadline for the Real-ID program.

In a statement from Acting Secretary Chad Wolf, he states that President Trump has extended the deadline from October 1st of this year, to October 1st of 2021.

Wolf states that  “The federal, state and local response to the spread of the Coronavirus here in the United States necessitates a delay in the deadline.”

According to the department’s website,  the purpose of the real id program is to ensure security measures at certain facilities, such as:

 

  • Accessing Federal facilities
  • Boarding federally regulated commercial aircraft
  • Entering nuclear power plants
