One Dead, Another Critically Injured in SUV Crash

ONE DES MOINES COUNTY MAN IS DEAD…ANOTHER WAS CRITICALLY INJURED…WHEN THEIR SUV LEFT HIWAY-61, JUST NORTH OF MEMORIAL PARK ROAD…AND CRASHED THRU THE FORK OF A TREE, JUST AFTER 1 O’CLOCK THIS(SAT) MORNING. THE DRIVER…FROM MEDIAPOLIS…WAS TAKEN TO THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS IN IOWA CITY. THE PASSENGER…NOT YET IDENTIFIED…WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. Man Attempts to Cross Mississippi River on Ice

He is lucky to be alive. That’s what Burlington’s Battalion Chief Bruce Workman had to stay about the call he received earlier today… “I was notified by our dispatch that there was a person out on the ice and that he was going to Illinois, but was coming back . I went down to the river and met him. I told him there wasn’t much chance of us helping him should he fall through the ice halfway across the river.” Continue Reading

Slick Conditions Send Car Off US 34

A 76-year-old Burlington woman lost control of her vehicle today while traveling eastbound along US 34. The crash was due to slick road conditions. Sandra Sherman ran off the right side of the highway, drove through the guardrail, rolled over once, and came to a rest at the bottom of the hill near West Burlington Ave. West Burlington Police Chief Frank Newberry was at the scene when we arrived… “The Fire Department had to extract the person. Winter Storm Coming for SE Iowa

Much of Southeast Iowa and West Central Illinois are in for another dose of snow tonight and tomorrow. There is a “Winter Weather Advisory” from 6 o’clock tonight until 6pm tomorrow. The greatest snow intensity is expected between midnight and noon Saturday. 5-7 inches of snow is expected. Burlington Treatment Center Closing in a Month

There are seven children currently receiving 24/7 treatment for substance abuse and behavioral related issues at Woodlands Treatment Center in Burlington. Once the facility closes it’s doors February 28th, Program Director Heather Brueck says the kids will most likely be sent home… “Most of them are probably going to go home. We’re hoping to keep them until our almost last day. We will work with them, give them as many skills as we can, and help them work through their addiction issues. Continue Reading

Donnellson Horse Rescue a Success

The Lee County Deputies were able to find people to care for each and every horse that was neglected by 55-year-old Jeff Graber of Donnellson. Graber neglected to feed and take care of the horses so authorities in Lee County underwent a horse rescue operation today to find new homes for the animals. At the beginning of this month police conducted investigations at two properties owned by Graber. The results revealed one dead horse, along with a number of others on the verge of dying.
