WB Looking to Have a Police Officer in School

Having a police officer in the West Burlington School buildings was discussed once again at tonight’s school board meeting. None were opposed to the idea, but most members were concerned with the cost, and wanted detailed pros and cons of having an SRO. Siemens Receives Order for 448 Wind Turbines

Today MidAmerican Energy and Siemens announced the largest wind expansion in Iowa’s history. MidAmerican has placed an order with the Fort Madison company to make all the blades for 448 wind turbines the company is installing in Iowa. At today’s press conference, Governor Terry Branstad discussed the impact it will have on the economy… “1,000 construction jobs will be added to Iowa’s economy during the next two years of the construction period. 448 new wind turbines and 40 new permanent jobs will be added.” Continue Reading


Keokuk Man Arrested on Meth Charges

A young Keokuk man has been arrested on felony drug charges. 26-year-old James Chaney of Keokuk was arrested in Denmark by the Lee County Narcotics Task Force. He has been charged with Manufacturing of Meth is Excess of Five Grams and Delivery of Meth. If convicted, Chaney faces 35 years in prison. Continue Reading


Burlington Meth Bust

After four months of investigating, The Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force and the Burlington Police Department arrested several people for manufacturing meth. Authorities executed a search warrant at 4496 Sullivan Slough Road in Burlington, where two people were arrested, and a third was detained upon arrival to the home. The three arrested were 55-year-old Randall Murphy, 37-year-old Tonya Garnsey, and 33-year-old Lisa Morris, all of Burlington. Inside the home, detectives found meth making materials, packaged crack cocaine, and multiple stolen ATV’s. Murphy and Garnsey were both arrested for conspiracy to manufacture meth. Snowy Conditions Kill Lomax Woman

With the first big snowfall of the season, there was bound to be some traffic accidents, unfortunately in Henderson County, one was fatal. 36-year-old Jessica Beasley of Lomax was traveling northbound on Carman Road when she lost control of her vehicle, spun into oncoming traffic, and was struck on the passenger side of her vehicle by 38-year-old Brian Nelson of Macomb. Beasley was pronounced dead at the scene, Nelson was treated and released from the hospital. Families have been notified. Continue Reading


Living Windows Come Alive Tonight

The windows of Downtown Burlington Storefronts will be lit up tonight for the Annual Living Windows Celebration. Steve Frevert with Downtown Partners refers to it as “a parade in reverse”… Instead of people standing and watching things go by, they walk and see things in the windows or on the sidewalks. Two Niota, IL. Homes Go Up in Flames

Two trailer homes went up in flames this afternoon in Niota, IL. Several crews responded to the blaze that they believe started with a ruptured gas line inside one of the homes. The trailers are in Leisure Land Pleasure Park. According to the dispatcher that paged the fire, he last heard that everyone got out safely and that everyone is accounted for. Henderson County Sex Offender Arrested

A Henderson County registered sex offender was arrested today for Violation of the Sex Offender Registry Act. The arrest of 40-year-old Norman Teel stems from an investigation by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department to do a compliance check at Teel’s home. During their check they found him to be in “noncompliance”. He appeared in court and was given a $5,000 bond. Continue Reading


Major Gas Leak Near Great River Medical Center

Authorities shut down the intersection of Gear and Division in West Burlington at around 10:30am today after a natural gas line ruptured. West Burlington Fire Chief Mike Heim was at the scene when we got there… “Basically, a fiber optics company nicked a gas line that was going up to the Klein Center. It was a 2-inch line with 90 pounds of pressure in it. It turned loose quite a volume of gas for about an hours time.” Continue Reading

Tow Boat Being Pulled From River Today

The Mississippi River towboat that partially sank just over two weeks ago is nearly ready to begin its 350-mile trip to a St. Louis area repair facility. U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Colin Fogarty says two small holes were discovered in the boat’s hull but they have been patched and the boat is watertight. A larger 30-by-12 inch hole had been patched earlier. Fogarty says the Coast Guard is doing a final safety inspection and reviewing the transit plan. Continue Reading
