Richard Ray “Riley” Locke, 63, died Sunday, June 21, 2015 in Bostic, N. C.


A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Burge Cemetery, rural New London.  Pastor Wally Reynolds will officiate.  All family and friends are welcome.  There will be a time of remembrance and luncheon at the New London Hall following the service.  A memorial has been established for the Mediapolis Ambulance Service.

Obituaries Friday June 26th

Albert Louis Heitz Jr., 66 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died unexpectedly Thursday morning, June 25, 2015 at his home.  He was born January 20, 1949 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Albert Louis Sr. and Doris (Noll) Heitz.  On August 14, 1971 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa he married Linda Unzicker.  She survives.  

Al was a 1967 graduate of Aquinas High School.  He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Sociology at Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, Missouri, and his Masters in Political Science and Sociology at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa.  He worked 34 years for Iowa Workforce Development, Fort Madison.  He was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member of the Lake Cooper Angling Association and the Fort Madison Elks Lodge, where he was Elk of the Year in 2004-05.  He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, reading, and winter trips to Florida.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa State Cyclone Fan.  He loved his family and grandchildren, and spending time with friends.  

He is survived by his wife, Linda Heitz, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Jessica (husband Rob) Moeller, of Houghton, Iowa; one son, Nicholas (wife Julie) Heitz, of Ankeny, Iowa; two brothers, Patrick (wife Beth) Heitz, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Michael (wife Carol) Heitz, of Naples, Florida; five grandchildren: Seth, Corbin, and Presley Moeller; and Elliot and Emmet Heitz; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Trudy Rallo. Obituaries Friday June 19th

JoAnne Yakle, age 87, of Wapello, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born on July 29, 1927, the daughter of Ralph and Mildred (Adams) Morris in Chicago, Illinois. She was their only child growing up on their farm near Columbus Junction. JoAnne was a graduate of Columbus Junction High School and attended Muscatine Community College where she received her Teaching Certificate.  She later received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Iowa Wesleyan College.  

She married Bill Yakle on December 26, 1948 in Columbus Junction.  They enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 63 years where they lived on a farm near Wapello.  Bill preceded her in death on May 12, 2012.  JoAnne was an educator for over 35 years in the Wapello School District where she taught kindergarten and first grade.  She loved teaching children how to read. Kyle Thomas Wilson, 49, of Burlington, died at 1:18 PM Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  

Born July 7, 1965, in Burlington, he was the son of Garold Dean and Geraldine “Jeri” Elaine Mallonee Wilson. On May 21, 1988, he married Joani Link in Stronghurst, Il. They were later divorced.  

Kyle had worked for Raider Precast, Doran and Ward Printing Co., General Electric, and The Hawkeye Group. Continue Reading

Lois C. McElhinney, 84, of Danville, died Monday, June 15, 2015 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Pastor David Mixon will officiate.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.  Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday, June 17 at the Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:30 PM.  Memorials have been established to the Danville Volunteer Fire Department and Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.  

Marilee R. Morrison, 87, former resident of Burlington, Iowa, died at East Ridge Retirement Village, Miami, Florida on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Born on November 10, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred A. and Edith R. Burkhart Morrison. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lyman Morrison. Charles James Hightower, Sr., 64, of Burlington, died at 2:45 PM Monday, June 8, 2015, at his home.  

Born May 31, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of James Nathaniel and Hazel Delores Lucas Hightower. On December 29, 1973, he married Vickie Whalen in Burlington. They later divorced.

Delores Naomi Roberts, 84, of West Burlington, died at 10:35 AM Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.  

Born June 17, 1930, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wesley and Josephine Macacia Waters. She married Leland Weir in 1946 in Burlington.  He died in 1970.  On October 7, 1972, she married Gary Dean Roberts in Stronghurst, IL. He died September 18, 2011.

Obituaries Friday June 5th

 Pauline Lucille Blair, age 86 of Morning Sun, died Thursday June 4, 2015 at Sunrise Terrace Care and Rehab Center in Winfield.  The daughter of Guy and Julia (Ryan) Swails, she was born July 19, 1928 at rural Wapello.  She married J. Earl Blair who preceded her in death in December of 1982.  She worked at Nichols and Morning Sun Produce for 18 years and then at the Morning Sun Care Center as a CNA  for 32 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun.  

Survivors include:  one son, Dan and Linda Blair of Yarmouth; one daughter Joyce Herndon of Monticello; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters.  

A graveside service will be Monday June 8, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery, with Pastor Jeff Duffy officiating. Continue Reading

Delores E. “Dee” McCabe, 86, of Burlington, died at 5:25 PM Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.  

Born March 21, 1929, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Oscar D. and Hazel Kite High. On August 2, 1952, she married John Emmitt McCabe in Quincy, IL. He died June 15, 1998.

He was born November 17, 1944 in Blytheville, AR, the son of Hugh E. And Arlene Nessa Scott Porter. On March 31, 1989 he married Sharon E, Whittlesey.
