Robert Maynard Kerr, age 75 of Mediapolis, died Sunday March 23, 2014 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The son of Rex and Ruby (Herr) Kerr, he was born April 1, 1938 at Newport, Iowa. On September 27, 1959 he married Caryl Eland at Fairfield, Iowa. He attended the MorningSunSchool. He was a 25 year member of the Mediapolis Lions Club, a member of the Odd Fellows, and was of the Presbyterian Faith. He worked for many years at Schrock lumber yard in Mediapolis.
Survivors include: his wife of Mediapolis and three children, Deb, Steve and Sue; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Jean Hostetter of Yarmouth and Beverly Wolfe of Davenport; one brother, Merle “Pete” Kerr of Newport; nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two sisters and one brother.
The funeral service will be Thursday March 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis, with Rev. Jerleen Schlesser officiating. Interment will follow at the KossuthCemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-7:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will meet with friends from 5-7:00 p.m. A general memorial has been established in his name. Jerome Lee ‘Jerry’ Cross, age 74, of Wapello, died Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014, at his home. The son of Ronald Maurice and Fannie Lea Matthews Cross, he was born on January 8, 1940 in Burlington. He married Mary Frances McKee on August 6, 1965 in Aledo, Illinois. Jerry graduated from Wapello High School in 1957 and from Southeastern Community College in West Burlington. He was a chemical technician at Monsanto. He loved his grandchildren, especially their cross country and track activities. He was an advocate of Platelet donations and had an appreciation for medical study. He was a Moderator for the Decorah Eagles as he enjoyed the outdoors including hunting and fishing. Jerry was an avid reader and he loved his dogs. His family includes his wife, Mary; two daughters, Elizabeth Kuhlemeyer of Hamel, Illinois and Sarah & Jesse Wright of Ottumwa; a son, Tom Cross of Silsbee, Texas; four grandchildren, Michael Vancil and Samantha, Gwynne, and Zoey Wright; three sisters, Debbie & Russ Wiley of Wapello, Sue Ellen Cross-Lea of Iowa City, and Carla & Keith Grimm of Wapello; and two brothers, Doug Cross of Wapello and Ronald Cross of Fairfax, Virginia. Patricia Marie Brobston, 67, of Burlington, died at 10:00 PM Monday, March 10, 2014, at her home.
Born January 20, 1947, in Iowa City, IA, she was the daughter of Howard Owen and Evon Lucetta Ferrell Brobston.
Patricia worked at Lance (Midwest Biscuit Co.) for 20 years. She then became the head lunch lady for the Burlington Community School District, starting at Horace Mann Junior High School and continuing until it caught fire and was tore down. She went on to work at several other schools but was working at Corse Elementary when she was overcome with illness. Continue Reading →
