Obituaries Monday March 10th

Bobbie Jo Royal, age 41 of Wapello, died Saturday March 8, 2014 in the ER at Great River Medical Center.   The daughter of Robert and Edna (Adams) Stanton, she was born January 7, 1973 at Washington, Iowa.  On August 20, 1993 she married Vincent Royal in Wapello.  She attended the Wapello High School and was a senior at Southeastern Community College.  She was a homemaker and had worked as a CNA. Survivors include:  her husband of Wapello; two sons, Arthur James Royal (AJ) and Vincent Joshua Royal (Josh); her parents, Robert Stanton of Missouri and Edna and Keith Frownfelter of Mediapolis;   two brothers, Scott and Jennifer Stanton of Wilton; Pete and Stacey Stanton of Muscatine;

Cremation has been accorded and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be Saturday March 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, with Rev. Claude Perhealth officiating.  A general memorial has been established in her name. Marvin “Skeeter” John Novak, Jr., 61, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:40 a.m. at his home.  He was born on March 24, 1952 in Charles City, IA to Marvin J. & Ila M. Arhart Novak, Sr.  He married Dawn Cunningham on July 21, 1973 in Joice, IA and they later divorced.  He then married Tammy Boone in Fort Madison and they later divorced.  He worked for the Dial Corporation first in Mason City, IA, then in Omaha, NE and later transferred to Fort Madison.  He worked for Dial for 32 years.  He also loved to perform magic for children, woodworking and fishing.  Being a man of God, he enjoyed sharing his faith in Christ with others. Skeeter is survived by: 5-sons: Jaime (Jennifer Johnson) Novak of Fort Madison, IA, Jason Novak of Fort Madison, IA, Aaron (Sarah) Novak of Watertown, NY, Chris (Steve) Nye of Fort Madison, IA, Mike (Jordyn) Novak Montrose, IA; 1-daughter: Jennifer (Josh Shallcross) Novak of Fort Madison, IA; 11-grandchildren; 2-sisters: Idella Shores of Fort Madison, IA & Fran

Roy Neil Cooper Jr., 59, of Des Moines, died at 8:40 AM Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his home.  

Born September 28, 1954, in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of Roy Neil and Edna Smith Cooper.  

Roy worked as an Electrician, working in construction.  

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Survivors: He is survived by his mother, Helen Bechtel of Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Eric (Katie Garcia) Lee and Sean (Adrienne) Lee, both of Burlington, Iowa; two daughters, Shannon (David) Kroll of Nashville, Tennessee and Bobbie (Tom) Cobb of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Josh, Brittany, Preston and Caden; one great-granddaughter, Avery; one brother, Ron (Sheryl) Lee of Burlington, Iowa; one nephew, Tristin; one step-brother, Fred Bechtel Jr. of Burlington, Iowa; several cousins; and his pet daschund, Joey.  
Memorial Service:  for Tommy Lee will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Prugh’s Chapel.  Mr. Mark McBride will officiate.  
Interment: n/a
Other arrangements: The family will receive friends in Prugh’s Chapel from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.  Following the service a Memorial Jam Session will be held at The Washington, Burlington, Iowa.  Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service. Obituaries Wednesday March 5th

J. Fredric ‘Doc’ Roules, MD, age 86 of Mediapolis, died Saturday morning, March 1, 2014, at Trinity Rock Island, Illinois.  The son of James and Sadie Anthony Roules, he was born on January 21, 1928 in Fairfield.  He married Margaret Miller on September 12, 1953 in Big Mound.  
He graduated from FairfieldHigh School in 1946. He joined the US Army and served in the Army of Occupation in Japan, returning to attend ParsonsCollege, graduating in 1951.  He received his MD from the University of Iowa in 1954 and served an Internship at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines.  Dr. Roules served as a Family Practice Physician in Mediapolis from 1955 until retiring in 1993.  
‘Doc’ Roules was a longtime and active member and supporter of the FirstUnitedMethodistChurch in Mediapolis and a member of the Mediapolis Lions Club and the American Legion in Mediapolis.  He worked with the Emergency Medical Services in Mediapolis and was active for many years with the Burlington Medical Society.

William Karl “Bill” Gullberg, Sr. age 88 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 11:30 a.m.Saturday March 1, 2014 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born December 18, 1925, on the Stoot Farm northeast of Youngstown, Warren County, Illinois, the son of Karl Arthur and Susie Brown Gullberg.  

He was raised on a farm north of Ponemah, Illinois. He attended LibertySchool and graduated from KirkwoodHigh School in 1941.  

During World War II, when the National Guard was called to war, the Illinois Militia was formed of grandkids and grandparents. Continue Reading →

Born June 13, 1943, in Greenport Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of Russell and Louise Smith Goodwin. In 1961 she married Jack Kindig, Sr. in Burlington.  He preceded her in death.

Obituaries Thursday February 13th

Bertha Margaret “Bertie”  Fedler, 92 years, of West Point, Iowa died at 5:30 pmTuesday, February 11, 2014 at the DonnellsonHealthCenter, Donnellson, Iowa.  She was born July 7, 1921 in rural Henry County, Iowa, a daughter of Conrad and Elizabeth (Rotter) Kruse.  On October 1, 1947, she married Louis Fedler in West Point.  He preceded her in death on June 25, 1999.  

Mrs. Fedler was a homemaker, seamstress, and gardener.  She also helped picked fruit at Faeth’s Orchards and was a bookkeeper for her husband’s gas delivery business.  She was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption  Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, Altar and Rosary Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Fort Madison Women’s bowling association, and was a 4-H Club leader.  She enjoyed crocheting, embroidered, and bowled up till she was 85.  

She is survived by one son, Howard Fedler, of West Point, Iowa; one daughter, Vickie (husband Gary) Sanders, of West Point, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Jane Fedler, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one brother, Cletus Kruse, of West Point, Iowa; three sisters:  Darlene Hellweg, of Donnellson, Iowa; Florence Menke, of St. Paul, Iowa; and Glorine Hellweg, of Fairfield, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Amanda, Ashley, Steve, Brad, Pam, Rod, and Kim; 12 great grandchildren: Logan, Anaka, Mya, Kaleb, Ella, Dante, Lauren, Mason, Bianca, Olivia, Damion, and Cade; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Conrad Fedler; one grandson, Doug Sanders; three brothers: Ernie Kruse, Richard Kruse, and Adrian Kruse; and two sisters, Marie Meierotto and Kathryn Meierotto.
