Obituaries Monday April 21st

Margaret June Grimm, age 89, of Wapello, died Thursday evening, April 17, 2014, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.  Margaret was the daughter of Lydia and Hans Friederich, born on June 9, 1924 in Elgin, Iowa.  She married Mark Grimm on June 17, 1951 in Taylor, Missouri. Margaret graduated from Palmyra High School in Missouri.  She was a homemaker, raising her family of five children.  She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a young lady and lived her entire life by her faith, love for her family, and joy of serving others.  Margaret was known for her ability to make delicious meals for family and friends. Margaret loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly.  She had a talent for painting pictures and putting difficult puzzles together.  Margaret went on many world-wide trips with her husband. Her family includes a daughter, Bev & Keith Kuntz of Wapello; four sons, Curt & Karen Grimm and Kent & Denise Grimm both of Wapello, Chris Grimm of Burlington, and Steve & Christina Grimm of Wapello; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and a twin sister, Mildred & Paul Butikofer of Elgin.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mark; two sisters, Rose Curry and Mabel Hodel both of California; and two brothers, Elmer Reitz of Kahoka, Missouri and Hans Reitz of Taylor, Missouri. Born on August 20, 1952 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Jack F. and Josephine Malcolm Glattfelder. He married Kathy Stagner on August 28, 1974 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Velva June Stout, 90, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 5:17 a.m. at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.  She was born on June 4, 1923 in Donnellson, IA to Denver & Murial Junkins Kincaid.  She married Charles E. Stout on January 9, 1943 in Kahoka, MO.  He preceded her in death on September 28, 2008.  Velva was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She liked growing and caring for her many African Violets and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a past member of the Santa Fe United Methodist Church. Clarence LeRoy Reed,  age 68 of Muscatine, died Monday April 7, 2014 at Mercy Hospital Hospice in Iowa City.  The son of Arnold and Bertha (Ashby) Reed, he was born May 15, 1945 at Muscatine.  On September 6, 1972 he married Lena May Smothers at Rolla, MO.  He was a graduate of the Grandview High School.  He served in the US Army from 1965-67. He was employed at Doane Manufacturing in Muscatine for many years. He was a member of the Muscatine American Legion. He is survived by his wife Lena of Muscatine;  seven children; Ken Rogers of Muscatine, Will Rogers, Debra Winchel, and Rick Rogers all of Newton; Jim Rogers of Florida; Martha Hatley of Oskaloosa; Judy Lake of Muscatine; 60 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother Robert Reed of Kansas; two sisters, Georgia VanAuken of Ankeny and Debra Storm of Muscatine;

Cheryl DeAnne Hartman, age 54 of Wapello, died Wednesday April 2, 2014 at her home in Wapello.  The daughter of Richard and Edith (Byrd) Metzger, she was born January 31, 1960 at Muscatine. On November 7, 1992 she married Brian Hartman at Wapello.  She attended Muscatine schools.  She worked as a cook and dietary aide at various local care centers.  She liked all forms of wildlife and loved to feed, watch, and photograph the birds and was a nurse to any and all injured cats and dogs as well as other animals that came across her path. Survivors include:  her husband, Brian, of Wapello; her Dad, Richard and Shirley Metzger of Columbus Junction; two sisters, Judy Metzger and Karen and Mark Bixby all of Muscatine; one brother, Richard Alan and Sherry Metzger of Muscatine; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Mother, and infant brother Steven, and grandparents Gerald and Anna Metzger and Cecil and Pearl Byrd. Visitation will be Wednesday April 9, 2014 from 1-2:00 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.  The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Chester Grogan officiating.  Cremation will follow the service and interment of the cremains will be at a later date at the GreenwoodCemetery in Muscatine.  A general memorial has been established in her name. LeRoy “Friday” Kerr Edwards, 85, of Morning Sun, Iowadied Tuesday April1, 2014 at the Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun, Iowa. He was born in Wapello, Iowa on May 9, 1928 to Paul and Ivy Edwards.  He graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1948.  He married Thelma Eubanks and they had two sons, Leslie and Michael.  He later married Shirley Booten Ford on July 28, 1993. Friday retired from the US Gypsum Plant in Mediapolis, Iowa.  Friday was a lifelong resident of Louisa County.  He was a member of the Burlington Eagles Club and Burlington Moose Lodge.  He enjoyed golfing and being with friends and family. Friday is survived by two sons Leslie (Janice) Edwards and Michael Edwards;  four step-daughters Debra Williams, Tina (Mark) Wiegard, Rhonda (Kevin) Harris, Simone (Greg Smith)Ford and Stacey Ford; one sister Marge (George) Sodemann,  and two brothers , Paul Edwards and Jes (Bernice) Edwards;  nine grandchildren,  six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Cody Werther.
