LeRoy “Friday” Kerr Edwards, 85, of Morning Sun, Iowadied Tuesday April1, 2014 at the Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun, Iowa. He was born in Wapello, Iowa on May 9, 1928 to Paul and Ivy Edwards. He graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1948. He married Thelma Eubanks and they had two sons, Leslie and Michael. He later married Shirley Booten Ford on July 28, 1993. Friday retired from the US Gypsum Plant in Mediapolis, Iowa. Friday was a lifelong resident of Louisa County. He was a member of the Burlington Eagles Club and Burlington Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing and being with friends and family. Friday is survived by two sons Leslie (Janice) Edwards and Michael Edwards; four step-daughters Debra Williams, Tina (Mark) Wiegard, Rhonda (Kevin) Harris, Simone (Greg Smith)Ford and Stacey Ford; one sister Marge (George) Sodemann, and two brothers , Paul Edwards and Jes (Bernice) Edwards; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Cody Werther. She is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Robert) Brookhiser of Stronghurst, Illinois, Cindy (Thomas) Lambert of Burlington and Brenda (Tim) Distelhorst, both of Burlington, Iowa; one son, Rick (Jane) Salmon of Burlington, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four sisters, Virginia, Carol, Shirley and Mary; several nieces and nephews. Darlene Hoover, 79, of Burlington, died at 12:01 PM Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 9, 1934, in Fairfield, IA, she was the daughter of Randall W. and Frances Bailey Pickerel. On January 16, 1954, she married Gerald “Mike” Hoover in Lancaster, Missouri. Peggy Lynn Edwards, age 56 of Carman, Illinois died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday March 27, 2014 at University Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born September 18, 1957 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Eugene and Pauline Bessie Johnson Talbott. On October 14, 2000, she married David Edwards in Carman, Illinois. Robert Maynard Kerr, age 75 of Mediapolis, died Sunday March 23, 2014 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The son of Rex and Ruby (Herr) Kerr, he was born April 1, 1938 at Newport, Iowa. On September 27, 1959 he married Caryl Eland at Fairfield, Iowa. He attended the MorningSunSchool. He was a 25 year member of the Mediapolis Lions Club, a member of the Odd Fellows, and was of the Presbyterian Faith. He worked for many years at Schrock lumber yard in Mediapolis.
Survivors include: his wife of Mediapolis and three children, Deb, Steve and Sue; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Jean Hostetter of Yarmouth and Beverly Wolfe of Davenport; one brother, Merle “Pete” Kerr of Newport; nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two sisters and one brother.
The funeral service will be Thursday March 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis, with Rev. Jerleen Schlesser officiating. Interment will follow at the KossuthCemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-7:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will meet with friends from 5-7:00 p.m. A general memorial has been established in his name.
