Carol M. Sheffler, 76, of LaHarpe, IL passed away 7:21AMSunday, April 14, 2013 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center. Carol was born the daughter of Harley and Fern Brunk Jones in LaHarpe on August 12, 1936. On October 2, 1954 she married Kenneth “Bud” Sheffler in LaHarpe. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2012. Marjorie “Margie” Maxine Grelk, 52, of Fort Madison, died at 9:42 AM Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.  

Born August 3, 1960, in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of Deloras Benedict Page. In 1976, she married Paul Grelk in Kahoka, MO.

Frederick Paul Duszynski, 74, of Burlington, died at 7:45 am Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  

 

 

Born June 4, 1938, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Stephen and Frances Tomczak Duszynski. On April 8, 1961, he married Patricia Napierski in Buffalo, NY.

Ruth Marie Grossman, 91 years, of Denmark, Iowa died at 7:15 pmMonday, April 1, 2013 at the West PointCareCenter, West Point, Iowa.  She was born July 23, 1921 at St Paul, Iowa, a daughter of Henry and Sadie (Menke) Spiekermeier.  On June 1, 1944 at West Point, Iowa she married Floyd “Bud” Grossman.  He preceded her in death.  

Ruth was a homemaker.  She was a member of Holy Family Parish and a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Augusta, Iowa and of the Altar and Rosary Society.  She also belonged to the Plymouth Circle of the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ, and was a member of TOPS for many many years.   She enjoyed time with her family and friends, bowling leagues, playing cards, and taking care of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Randy (Tamara) Grossman, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Nancy Anderson, of Denmark, Iowa; one sister, Jeanette (Cletus) Bergthold, of Davenport, Iowa; five grandchildren: Tami Box, Tennelle Anderson-Kuhn, Joshua Anderson, Wylie Grossman, and Hoyt Grossman; and six great  grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Orville Spiekermeier, and two sisters, Irene Lessenger and Delores Fedler.  

Friends may call after 2:00 pmFriday, April 5, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 – 6:30 pm, Friday evening.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 amSaturday, April 6, 2013 at SacredHeartChurch, Fort Madison, Iowa with Reverend David Wilkening as Celebrant.  Burial will be at Denmark Cemetery, Denmark, Iowa.  A memorial has been established for Denmark Volunteer Fire Department and the Denmark Cemetery Association, and contributions may be made at the church or the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.  Online condolences to the Grossman family may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel website, www.barrmemorialchapel.com. Born December 17, 1938, in Saint Peter, MN, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Viola Strand Crowell. At the age of six, Donna’s father died and she was raised by her stepfather, Robert Stahl. She had been married to Gary Gould and Marvin McCoy. Continue Reading →

Obituaries Wednesday March 27th

Dorothy Maxine Harwood, 74, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa.  She was born October 3, 1938 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse Edward and Sarah Jane Beghtol Land.  On June 5, 1954 she married Harold Franklin Harwood Sr. they were later divorced.  He died October of 1997. She was a nurse at Burlington Medical Center and Burlington Care Center and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Montrose, Iowa. Dorothy enjoyed nursing the old fashioned way with care and concern.  While studying to be a nurse she achieved high grades.  She liked reading the Bible, mystery novels and watching westerns on TV.  She enjoyed the game backgammon, sewing and crocheting.  The family was in trouble if they ran out of chocolate milk. She is survived by two sons, Harold Harwood and William Harwood, both of Burlington, Iowa; three daughters, Vicky (Pedro) Maestro of Montrose, Iowa, Marian Shaver of Burlington, Iowa and Marsha Darlene (Wayne) Metz of Ft. Madison, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; one brother John V. Land of Revere, Missouri; five sisters, Martha Janette Roberts and Barbara Peterson, both of Ft.
