Richard “Dick” Baker, 87, of Yarmouth, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center in Mediapolis.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Private family inurnment will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union. According to Mr. Baker’s wishes, his body has been cremated. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Thursday morning at the Chapel, and the family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. A memorial has been established to the Yarmouth Fire Department and to Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center.

Eva Adina Knopp, 98, West Burlington died Saturday 5/17 at the Great River Medical Center Klein Center. She is survived by 3 daughters, Diane Blevins of Edelstein, IL, Loretta Black of Davenport & Barbara Johnson of Burlington, 2 sisters, Erma Reynolds of Oneida, IL and Carol Staff of New London, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Nancy Lou Hyhouse, 80 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 1:24 pm Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at The Madison, Fort Madison, Iowa. Nancy was born November 18, 1934 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of William and Mary (Kendall) Schumaker. On August 12, 1956, she married Edward Hyhouse at Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death.
Nancy lived in the Fort Madison area all her life. She was a 1952 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She was a homemaker, but after the death of her husband she went to work to support her family. She worked in the deli at Easter Foods, in the cafeteria at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, and at SubArena. She was Vice President and on the board of the Camp Fire girls, and was a member of the Fort Madison Band parents. She enjoyed reading and traveling, and she collected angels.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Russell) White, of Burlington, Iowa and Amy (Daniel) Holt, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Rampy, of Virginia and Ida Sprenger, of Fort Madison, Iowa; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Edwin Schumaker and Larry Schumaker.
Graveside services and burial will be at 1:00 pm Friday, May 15, 2015 at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa, with Pastor Cheryl Simpson officiating. A memorial has been established, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services. William John Witte, Burlington resident died Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa. He was born July 28, 1936 in Burlington, Iowa the son of William Andrew and Hazel Weinrich Witte. Bill married Rosemary Elaine Senn June 12, 1965 in Burlington, Iowa. He worked in Accounting at Witte Drug in Burlington and later established and ran Bill’s Country Store on Jefferson which became Natures Corner. Bill was a member of SS John & Paul Catholic Church, New Crystal Lake Club, Carthage Lake Club, BPOE #84, Eagles Club, Burlington Golf Club and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed golfing, duck hunting, yard work and taking walks. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and traveling. Bill especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and watching their sports events. He shared many stories about the Witte family history. The memorial service for Mrs. Helen Brink Bishop, 95, of Monroe, Georgia and formerly New London, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Jim Roth will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and a memorial has been established for the New London United Methodist Church and Dover Museum. Elliott Chapel, New London is in charge of arrangements.
Myrtle Marie Gott, age 99 of Wapello, died Friday May 8, 2015 at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center. The daughter of Bert and Bertha (Ashby) Robertson, she was born October 18, 1915 in Louisa County. She was married to William Gott and they later divorced. Myrtle worked for a short time as a nurse aide at Oakdale, Iowa. She was a farm wife and took pride in her home and yard. She spent a lot of time making afghans and crochet items for her family.
Survivors include: one son, James and Ruby Gott of Wapello; one granddaughter Connie and Bill Pierce; two great granddaughters Sandie and Walter McDowell and Bridget Pierce; two great grandsons Noah Garr and Zack McDowell; one sister, Mary Lee Nelson of Silvis, Illinois; one brother, Richard Robertson of Washington, Iowa; She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and four sisters.
The funeral service will be Monday May 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating. Interment will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. Beth Ann Wilson, 56, of Burlington, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at her home.
Born March 12, 1959, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Paul Marvin and Barbara Louise Schulte Kaltefleiter. She married Bill Evans in May 1982. They later divorced. On September 21, 1991, she married William Wesley Wilson in Burlington. He died September 17, 2007.
Beth worked with plants at various garden centers, she was a bartender at Big Muddy’s, and was a cook at Catfish Bend Casino. Continue Reading

She was born January 30, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Charlie and Millie Belcher Mitchell. She married Eugene Brown March 8, 1980 in Burlington, Iowa. Ruby was a homemaker; she lived in Sikeston, Missouri as a child. She served as an usher in her church. She loved to cook and help others. Ruby is survived by her husband, Eugene; two brothers Charles (Talethia) Mitchell and John (Mary) Mitchell both of Burlington, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews.
