Karen Sue Quigley Dill, ARNP, age 60, of Morning Sun, died Tuesday morning, March 10, 2015, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center in Wapello. She was born on April 23, 1954 in Panama City, Florida and was a lifelong resident of Iowa.
Following cremation a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 310 N. Johnson St., Iowa City. Rev. Robert Elgin will officiate.
A light reception at the church will follow the service.
The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello is providing the care and arrangements.
Matthew William Hallman, 52, of Burlington, Iowa, died peacefully at home on Saturday morning, March 7, 2015 surrounded by family. Born on December 14, 1962 at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Bill Hallman and M. Diane Wilson Mansheim. Matt was a 1981 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He studied Forestry at Muscatine Community College and attended Dade County Community College. Betty L. Simmons, age 78 of Morning Sun, died Wednesday March 4, 2015 at the Morning Sun Care Center. The daughter of Carroll and Edna (Fox) Morehead, she was born May 3, 1936 at Maquoketa, Iowa. On August 22, 1953 she married Charles Simmons in Burlington; he died March 11, 2013. She was a graduate of the Morning Sun High School. She worked at Bi-State in Buffalo, Iowa, was a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed reading and the outdoors, especially flowers and birds.
Survivors include: one son, Rick and JoBeth Simmons of Morning Sun; two daughters, Grace Hartman and Dan Wischmeier of Yarmouth; Kerry and Ed Wilkerson of Morning Sun; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one great grandson.
According to her wishes cremation has been accorded.
The family will meet with friends Tuesday March 10th from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun. A private family graveside will be on Wednesday at the Elmwood Cemetery.
Kevin Reed Hazell, 61, of Burlington, died at 5:52 pm Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by his family.
Born July 18, 1953, in Burlington, IA, he was the fourth son of Arthur Franklin and Wilma Dot Reed Hazell.
He was a 1971 graduate of Burlington High School.
Kevin lived a rich life, with jobs as diverse as a deckhand on the Mississippi River to a painter at Western Illinois University, where he spent much of his career. No matter where he lived or worked, he remained a talented artist, craftsman, and musician. Continue Reading
Emmett G. Messer, 88, of Yarmouth, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center in Mediapolis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Rev. James Messer, and Pastors Carl Vass, and Steve Parker will officiate. Burial will be in Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Pleasant Grove with Military Rites presented by the Henry County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday, March 4 at the Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials have been established to the Des Moines County 4-H Foundation and Danville United Church of Christ.
Shirley Anne Wilson, 78, West Burlington died Saturday 2/28 at the Great River Medical Center Klein Center in West Burlington. She is survived by her daughter, Kari Potter of West Burlington and a brother, James Johnson of Bedford, Iowa. Bonnie Raid, 93, of Burlington, died at 6:32 AM Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born September 3, 1921, near Wyman, IA, she was the daughter of Edward Wilson and Imo Ivalou Dill Fullerton. On May 3, 1941, she married Melvin Ernest Raid in Versailles, Missouri and they celebrated 68 years together. He died May 14, 2009.
Bonnie was a 1938 graduate of Columbus Junction High School. She also was also a graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield, where she met Mel. She taught school in a one room school house for two years before getting married and becoming a homemaker. Continue Reading
Trina Lynn Myers, 55, of Burlington, IA passed away at 3:48 AM on Monday, February 23, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. She was born August 11th, 1959 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, the daughter of Jack & Beverly Myers. Throughout the years, besides Iowa, Trina resided in Florida, Nevada and Arizona and worked in various management positions. Trina had an amazing heart and could never turn away a friend or a stranger or especially a stray animal in need.
