A West Burlington car dealership is getting some nationwide recognition. Deery Brothers in West Burlington has been nominated for the “2014 TIME Dealer of the Year Award”. Thanks to a tip from the public, Burlington Police have found…in the Saunderson Heights neighborhood…and are processing…a blue Jeep Cherokee believed to’ve been involved in an early morning shooting yesterday(Weds) at Congers Mobile Home Park, in the 2400 block of Division Street. When authorities arrived at the scene, shortly after 2 am, they found 37-year-old Charles Campbell of Robbins, Illinois, (in south suburban Chicago), with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken to Great River Medical Center and then airlifted to Iowa City.

A MONTROSE MAN WAS KILLED LATE LAST(WEDS) NITE WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS TRUCK AND ROLLED IT, ON WHITE PLAINS ROAD. LEE COUNTY DEPUTIES SAY 29-YEAR OLD CODY WESTERMEYER WAS NORTHBOUND IN A CHEVY S-10 AROUND 10 O’CLOCK WHEN THE PICKUP LEFT THE ROADWAY IN THE 21-HUNDRED BLOCK AND WENT INTO THE WEST DITCH. THERE, IT BEGAN TO SLIDE SIDEWAYS AND THEN ROLL, COMING TO REST ON ITS TOP. WESTERMEYER WAS THROWN OUT OF THE TRUCK AND SUFFERED A FATAL HEAD INJURY.
General Electric employees and supporters had one message tonight for the company, and that was to “KEEP YOUR PROMISE”. Three years ago, GE threatened to close down the West Burlington manufacturing plant if workers didn’t agree to nearly $8-million in cuts. Besides that, West Burlington, the state of Iowa, and Des Moines County threw in $2.4-million in tax incentives to keep the plant open for another 3-5 years. A tour hosted by Executive Director of Downtown Partners, Steve Frevert, will take people into long forgotten basements of Downtown Burlington. One basement that will be shown was once a morgue… “River Park Place use to be Mercy Hospital, and what is now Smith Engineering’s Lab Testing offices in the basement, was originally the morgue area. Burlington Police are searching for a blue 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport, with a license plate of BGG773. A person in the vehicle was allegedly involved in an early morning shooting at Congers Mobile Home Park, the 2400 block of Division Street. A hydro-power installation on the dam in Quincy was once a possibility, but was voted down by their city council. Now it may be a possibility for Burlington’s Lock and Dam 18.
