The Iowa Pork Producers Association has selected a southeast Iowa restaurant as the winner of the 2013 Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Contest. River Rock Cafe in Mt. Pleasant, near Oakland Mills, will receive $500, a plaque, and statewide publicity for winning IPPA’s 11th annual contest. The official award presentation will be at the cafe on October 16th. River Rock Cafe double coats it’s hand-pounded pork tenderloins in a cracker and bread crumb mixture daily and serves roughly 500 a week. Continue Reading

The popular haunted house now holds the title for “Best Haunted House in Iowa” according to hauntedworld.com. Terry McWilliams does Marketing and Public Relations for Midwest Old Threshers and says everyone is very excited about their “new title” … “Yea, it’s exciting. All my volunteers and actors thought it was pretty cool to have fans that voted and put us at number one for Iowa on hauntedworld.com”

DETROIT (AP) — General Motors is recalling nearly 22,000 full-size pickup trucks to fix problems with the seats. The recall affects Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups from the 2014 model year that were sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The trucks have manual front reclining seat backs. Canadian safety regulators say the seats could move in a rear-end crash, and the headrests may not protect passengers as designed. Two of three phases have now been completed, phase two officially opened today to the public after a ribbon cutting ceremony at the intersection of Flint Bottom Road and Prairie Grove Road.
