After a battle with cancer, Nancy Lee Delzell died on May 31, 2015 in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 73.
Nancy was born on January 2, 1942 in Burlington to father Walter A. Norris and mother, Mary Frances Salome; and one sister Barbara A. Beckman, all preceding her in death. She attended and graduated with honors from Burlington High School. She married Roger H. Delzell, November 25, 1962, then made their home in Morning Sun. Following the birth of their two children, son Rick Delzell and daughter Denise DeJong, she graduated with honors with a degree in Education from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.
Nancy taught 6th grade at the Louisa-Muscatine School District for 25 years and enjoyed a lifetime love of learning, reading and writing. Following her retirement, she continued to volunteer at the school to foster and encourage love of reading. Her hobbies included reading, scrap-booking, quilting, spending time with family, many friends and visiting and doting on her children and grandchildren at every opportunity.

Mrs. Marjorie L. McDowell, 93, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 3:45 PM Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center. She was born November 16, 1921 in Elvaston, IL, the daughter of Revy and Ethel Hankins Martin. On October 17, 1942 she married Charles William McDowell in Hannibal, MO. The graveside inurnment for Mr. Jerry Darbyshire, 76, of New London, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, at Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union. Pastor Kathleen Moore will officiate. Memorials have been established for the New London Rescue Unit and the American Diabetes Association. Elliott Chapel, New London is in charge of arrangements.
Harry Otto Peterson Jr., 66, of Fort Madison, died at 10:40 am Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison. Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.
Joe Dean Johnson, age 67, of Wapello and formerly of Winfield, died Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2015, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. Joe was born May 12, 1948 at Hershey Hospital in Muscatine. Joe was raised in Wapello the son of Ross and Darlyne (Buster) Johnson.
He retired from Metro Mail in Mt. Pleasant. Joe served in the US Army for 2 years as a First Cook at the Officers Club in Pine Bluff Arkansas Arsenal. He was on the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years and dressed as their mascot ‘Smokey The Bear’ for several of those years. He coached a women’s softball team for many years. He enjoyed smoking hogs and was known as ‘Smokey Joe’. Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing and was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan.
He was married to Deanna Kellogg and later divorced. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Charles; and a niece Gwen (Johnson) Walker. Survivors include his siblings, Norman and (Kay) Johnson, (Bill) and Donna Maddux, (Dick) and Opal Taylor, all of Wapello and Twyla Humphrey of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
