Irene Campbell, 88, of Burlington, died at 2:23 AM Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the Burlington Care Center in Burlington.
Born August 8, 1925, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of George William and Goldie M. Hoskins Boyd. On September 12, 1953, she married Kenneth J. Campbell in Fort Madison.
Irene worked as a hairdresser.

John William McCulley, Sr., age 88, of Mediapolis and formerly of Oakville, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the Klein Unit of Great River Medical Center in Burlington. Born on May 11, 1925 in Grandview, Iowa, John was the oldest of seven boys and the son of Glen R. and Ruth Cockerill McCulley. He walked two miles to attend Mount Hope and Indian Creek Country Schools. John was drafted into the US Navy in 1946. After his time in the service he graduated from American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, Iowa. He married Betty L. Ball on April 16, 1949 in Wapello. Together they founded Oakville Feed and Produce in 1951 which is now TriOak Foods. John served as a Director of Farmer and Merchants Bank and Trust for nearly 50 years and held the position of president of the Iowa Feed and Grain Association. He served on the Oakville School Board and on the Oakville City Council. He was a member of the American Legion Post 489 in Oakville for 64 years and was a member of the Wapello Lodge #5 A.F. & A.M. Robert F. Carter, 77, of Fort Madison, IA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 6:17 p.m. at the FortMadisonCommunityHospital. He was born on February 14, 1936 to Robert F. & Ruby Belle Rowland Carter III. He married Janis J. Worman on April 15, 1952 in Kahoka, MO. He retired from the Iowa State Penitentiary with 38 years of service. He was a member of Living Hope Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed telling jokes, singing, playing the guitar, lighthouses, watching old television shows and spending time with his family. He always thought of others first and took great pride in taking care of his wife, Janis. Kyler Ray Schnedler, age 12 of Mediapolis, died Wednesday November 6, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The son of Mathew and Alissa (Drebenstedt) Schnedler, he was born August 18, 2001 at Burlington. He was a 6th grader at Mediapolis Schools. Chloe Michelle Shinn, daughter of Matthew David and Dawn Michelle Michaelson Shinn, of Burlington, was stillborn Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Survivors include her parents, Matthew and Dawn Shinn of Burlington; one brother, Carter Matthew Shinn, and one sister, Claire Ann Shinn, both at home; paternal grandparents, David and Cheryl Shinn of West Burlington; maternal grandparents, Jim and Gail Michaelson of Bradenton, FL; two paternal great-grandmothers, Anna Jones of Burlington, and Ilene Shinn of Northwood, IL; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Grace, four great-grandfathers, and two great-grandmothers.
Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory.

Earl “Soney” Nickel, 86, of Wever, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 8:35 PM at MercyHospital in Iowa City. He was born on November 25, 1926 in Alexandria, MO to Earl and Pearl Fox Nickel. In July of 1947 he married Irma Ivins Patterson and she preceded him in death. Soney then married Eileen Daugherty on January 4, 1994 in Denmark, IA. He was an assistant superintendent in Wood Industries at Iowa State Penitentiary, worked at 400 Bowl, LeHigh Leopold and he retired as a customer representative from IMCFarmCenter. Soney was a member of the Denmark United Congregational Church of Christ. He was also a dedicated member of the Odd Fellows Lodge 552 in Wever for over sixty five years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and was a nature lover. Soney was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. Survivors include his wife, Eileen Nickel of Burlington; two daughters, Paula (Robert) Patterson Tripp of Ames and Susan (Jody Katt) Nickel of Los Angeles, CA; one son, Scott Nickel of Wever; two step daughters, Kathy (Leroy) Mabeus and Sherry (Ray) McKee of Wever; two step sons, Bob (Janice) Daugherty of Dallas City, IL and Steve Daugherty of Ft. Madison; two grandchildren, Casey Nickel of Ft. Alfred W. Jackson, age 88, of Mediapolis, died Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis. The son of Raymond ‘Bud’ and Lena Johnson Jackson, he was born on October 12, 1925 in Morning Sun. He married Mary Ellen Eubanks on December 21, 1947 in Morning Sun. He graduated from MorningSunHigh School and served in the US Navy during WW II. He was an electrician with the IBEW # 13 of Burlington. He was a member of the IBEW #13, the Masonic Lodge #226 of Mediapolis, and the VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166 of Wapello. He had served on the Des Moines County Conservation Board and the Mediapolis City Council. He was of the Methodist faith. Alfred enjoyed woodworking, being outdoors, and his pets. He was very devoted to his family. His family includes his wife, Mary Ellen; two daughters, Carolyn Fromm & Steven Patterson of West Burlington and Christine & Alan Sergeant of Longmont, Colorado; a granddaughter, Kathy & Chad Bonser; and two great grandsons, Andrew and Gage Bonser. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Robert Fromm. The funeral ceremony for Alfred Jackson will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 4, 2013, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis with Chaplain Dean Graber officiating.
