Larry Burger, 79, of Montrose, died at 4:48 PM Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  

Born June 30, 1933, in Lake Okoboji, IA, he was the son of Frank and Eunice Ward Burger.  

He enjoyed gardening, music, and fishing.  

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Tweedy of Fort Madison, IA; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Burger, Angela Tweedy, and Mike Tweedy;  four great-grandchildren, Eliot, Logan, Brian, and Mike; one brother, Paul Burger of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Birdelle Candella of St. Continue Reading →

Marjorie Mae Timmerman, 91, of Sperry, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa on Monday afternoon, May 27, 2013.     
Born on February 26, 1922 in LeClaire, Iowa, she was the daughter of John S. and Amanda A. Seibel Hoffstetter. She married David O. Timmerman on August 4, 1956 in Iowa City, Iowa. He died on March 3, 1995.

Miriam Carleen Hackman Heusel, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, May 24, 2013 at Sunrise Terrace, Winfield, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31, at First United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant.  Pastor Herbert Shafer will officiate.  According to her wishes, she has been cremated and  private family inurnment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Christopher Joel Johnson, 55, of Burlington, died at 5:48 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at his home.  

Born April 2, 1958, in Burlington, he was the son of John Oscar and Florence Kathleen Sheridan Johnson. On August 25, 1979, he married Sheri Jean Boyd in Burlington.  

Chris had retired as a Locomotive Journeyman Machinist.

Obituaries Monday May 20th

     Marjorie Grace Myers, age 93, of Sperry, Iowa passed away Thursday evening, May 16, 2013 at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis.  She was born August 17, 1919 at home, near Burnside, Illinois, the daughter of Harvard and Bessie Todd Pettit.  On February 1, 1947 she married Ralph William Myers in Burlington.  He preceded her in death on August 13, 1973.      She was raised near Burnside and attended Madison country school through the 6th grade.  She attended BurnsideSchool in 1936. She drove her pony and cart to school every day.  She attended BurlingtonBeautyAcademy and worked at a beauty shop in Burlington.  She also worked at the House of Fabrics in Burlington.      Marjorie was a kind and generous lady and an inspiration to many.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  She loved spending time with her family and friends more than anything.      Marjorie was a homemaker and mentor and left her footprint on so many people’s hearts.  She was a member of the SperryUnitedMethodistChurch since 1947.  She was a long time member of the United Methodist Women of Sperry, a Sunday School Superintendent, and taught Sunday School.  She was a Past President of the Sperry School Community Club and enjoyed her friends in her Red Hat group.  She enjoyed playing cards weekly with her friends.  She also enjoyed gardening and her yard.  She traveled with her sister on many bus trips and trips to Hawaii, California, and Canada with her friends. Richard Lee “Rick” Wills, 57, of Burlington, died at home on Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 2013.     
Born on September 19, 1955 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Richard J. and Mary K. Hammer Wills. He married Nan Scott, they later divorced.

Thomas Lee “Tom” Brockway, 65, of Burlington, died at his home on Wednesday morning, May 15, 2013.     
Born on July 15, 1947 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Elwood Harrison and Patricia Ann Welch Brockway.  
Tom served in the U.S. Navy and saw action in Vietnam. He worked in sales at R.L. Polk Banking and McFadden Publications. He enjoyed golfing, SCC basketball, Iowa Hawkeyes, fantasy sports, cookouts, music, traveling, debating politics and especially time with his family. Continue Reading →

Dixie L. Johnson, 92 of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of rural Stronghurst, died at 2:23 p.m. Saturday May 11, 2013 at Wesley Village in Macomb. She was born August 18, 1920 in Damascus, Virginia, the daughter of Oscar and Marie Wright Gray. On June 5, 1943, she married Elmer W. Johnson in Stronghurst.
