Mr. Lldon L. Little, 84, of LaHarpe, IL passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 1:40 PM in the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center. He was born December 20, 1928 in Stronghurst, Illinois, the son of Guy and Mary Hutson Little. On July 23, 1950 Lldon married Lucille Johnson in LaHarpe. Lldon Graduated from LaHarpeHigh School in 1946 and then attended Browns School of Business in Galesburg, Illinois. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. Continue Reading

Florence Miller, 73, of New London died Thursday, December 12, 2013 in the emergency room at HenryCountyHealthCenter.  Arrangements are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London. Charles Alvin Nelson, age 84, of Mediapolis, died Thursday morning, December 12, 2013, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis.  The son of Russel and Evelyn Pilling Nelson, he was born on July 17, 1929 in rural Mediapolis.  He married Anne Hutchcroft on June 15, 1950 in Mediapolis.  She died February 6, 1978.  Charles married Marge Mellinger on August 15, 1980 in Mediapolis.       He graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1948 and from Iowa State University with an Ag Degree.  He taught Ag for two years at Redfield, Iowa where he established their first FFA Chapter.  He then came back to Mediapolis to farm with his dad on the family farm NE of Mediapolis. 
     Charlie was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis where he had served as an elder and Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.  He was a Farm Bureau member and had served on the MediapolisSchool Board.  He enjoyed camping, the Cubs, Hawkeyes, and Cyclones.      His family includes his wife Marge of Mediapolis; children, Brent & Chris Nelson of Gladstone, Illinois, Denise & Herschel Smuck of Mediapolis, Fred & Luann Nelson of Mediapolis; Duane & Jeanie Mellinger of Port Aransas, Texas, Dwight & Mary Mellinger of Burlington, and including a daughter –in-law, Leanne Nelson of Mediapolis; eleven grandchildren, Tracy & Scott Lipper, Deanne Walljasper, Jasper & Kristine Walljasper, Robyn Smuck, Eden & Garret Wahlers, Michele & Dan Evans, Joshua, Caleb, and Jacob Nelson, Russ & Alaina Nelson, and Sarah & KCasey Jackson; four great grandchildren, Leevi Walljasper, Bailey, Hailey, and Mack Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anne; a son, Ed; and a sister, Fern Gustafson.      The funeral ceremony for Charles Nelson will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 16, 2013, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis.  Pastor Dan Baker will officiate.  Burial will follow at the KossuthCemetery. Obituaries Wednesday December 11th

Karma Kaye Ellard, 52, and her husband, Audie Crawford Ellard II, 59, died Monday, December 9, 2013 in a fire at their home in St. Paul, Iowa. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 13, 2013 at Elliott Chapel, New London.  According to their wishes, the bodies have been cremated, and inurnment will be in Burge Cemetery.  Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM on Friday with the family greeting friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to help pay funeral expenses. Mrs. Mary M. Douglas, 91, of rural Dallas City, Illinois passed away a 2:00 A.M.Monday, December 9, 2013 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, LaHarpe, Illinois. She is survived by a son, Terry of Burlington, 3 daughters, Carolyn Wagner and Susan Mueller of Burlington and Kimberly Graham of Ursa, IL. Family will receive friends  following the Memorial Service in Fellowship Hall
11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10th, at First United Church of Christ
Burial will be  in the  Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. Lunning Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Obituaries Friday December 6th

Vernon Floyd Muntz died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa.  He was born August 30, 1922 at Farmington, Iowa the son of Earl Otto and Olive Watts Muntz.  On January 9, 1947 he married Charlotte Louise Smith in San Diego, California. 
     Vernon served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.  He was a Machinist Tool & Die maker.  He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.      Vernon was a graduate of Le Tourneau University receiving a bachelor’s degree as a tool maker.  He was employed in various factories in Burlington, Iowa and retired from General Electric in 1987.  During retirement years, he and his family traveled to national parks, museums and took tours in Mexico, Canada and went on many cruises.      Survivors include his wife Charlotte of Burlington, one son Randy Muntz also of Burlington; one sister Pauline Varner of Ft. Madison, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Arvella Muntz and Maxine Kerr, one brother, Melvin Muntz and an infant son, Dennis.      Funeral Services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.  Pastor Terry Vance will officiate.  Interment will be in Sharon Cemetery, Lee County, Iowa.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Patrick A. Duffy, age 70 of Morning Sun, died Tuesday December 3, 2013 at the MorningSunCareCenter.  The son of Carl and Nina (Nichols) Duffy, he was born September 11, 1943 at Muscatine.  He was a graduate of the MorningSunHigh School.  He served for two years during the View Nam War in the US Army.  He was an iron worker and retired from Hawkeye Group in Mediapolis.  He was a member of the NRA and the Morning Sun American Legion, Hayes –Scott Post. Survivors include:  one sister Patricia Hamann of Morning Sun; one brother Lyle Duffy of Sedona, AZ; two nephews,
He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.  
Cremation has been accorded and there will be no visitation or services and this time.  Inurnment will be at a later date at the ElmwoodCemetery in Morning Sun.  A memorial has been established for the Morning Sun Food Pantry.

John Milton Genck, 84, of Donnellson, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at 11:10 p.m. at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.  He was born on January 15, 1929 in Fort Madison, IA to John T. & Tempy B. Hawkins Genck.  He married Dolores H. Sheppard on April 30, 1949 in Fort Madison, IA.  He was a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad for 36 years and later worked at the Fort Madison Daily Democrat for 20 years.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of Izaak Walton, the Model T of America Club & ILIAMO Model T Ford Club.  He enjoyed collecting junk, antiques and tinkering.        John is survived by: his wife: Dolores Genck of Donnellson, IA; 1-daughter: Karen (Ben) Anderson of Donnellson, IA; 1-son: Stephen (Jo) Genck of Donnellson, IA; 6-grandchildren; 18-great grandchildren; 4-great great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by: his parents, 5-brothers & 2-sisters.        Per his wishes, his body has been cremated by King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 with Rev.
