Mary L. Anderson Tortat, 89, of Keosauqua, IA and formerly of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 12:25 p.m. at the West PointCareCenter.  She was born on January 21, 1924 in Fort Madison, IA to Clarence & Daisy Peacock Poe.  She married Kenneth M. Anderson on July 12, 1941.  He preceded her in death on May 26, 1989.  She later married Frank Tortat on May 17, 1996.  She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God Independent Holiness.        Mary is survived by: her husband: Frank Tortat of Keosauqua, IA;  3-sons: Marvin (Juanita) Anderson of rural Wever, IA, Bruce Anderson of Fort Madison, IA & Scott (Sharon) Anderson of West Point, IA; 2-step daughters: Kaye (Terry) Morrow of Mt. Pleasant, IA & Janice McTee of Mt. Pleasant, IA; 11-grandchildren; 5-step grandchildren; 13-great grandchildren; 3-step great grandchildren; 1-great great granddaughter; 2-sisters: Marjorie MacMeekin of Sacramento, CA & Charlotte (Maurice) Loges of Primrose, IA.  She was preceded in death by: her parents, 2-step mothers: Emma Poe & Ethel Poe, her first husband, 2-sons: Gerald & Dean Anderson, 1-brother in infancy & 2-sisters.        Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Ann Lee Thompson, 90 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 10:40 pmWednesday, January 15, 2014 at the FortMadisonCommunityHospital, Fort Madison, Iowa.  She was born October 26, 1923 at Hale, Missouri, a daughter of Lester and Effie Mae (Boley) Woodard.  On July 5, 1942, she married Leon W. Thompson at Unionville, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on September 8, 1998. 


She was a graduate of Mt.PleasantHigh School.  She worked many years at Sheaffer Pen and the Ordinance Plant.  For 10 years, she and her husband, owned and operated Tommy’s Maid-Rite.  She also worked 10 years for Dr. Rashid, and retired in 1985.  She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a 50 year member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary and was a past Madam President.  She enjoyed bowling, golfing, crafts, and quilting.  

She is survived by one son, Stephen Thompson, of Fort Madison, Iowa; three daughters: Joyce Thompson, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Janet (husband Dale) Navntoft, of Fort Madison, Iowa; and Sandra Lehrke, of Montrose, Iowa; two sisters, Ruby Smith, of Mesa, Arizona and Donna Kennedy, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; ten grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Jerry Thompson, one great grandson, Bryson James Clark, two brothers, Billy Jr. Woodard and Howard Wayne Woodard, and three sisters: Audrey Doty, Juanita Tyner, and Margaret Lynn Woodard. 


Her body has been cremated.  Family will greet friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pmMonday January 20, 2014 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.  Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pmMonday January 20, 2014 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend John Simpson officiating.  Private family burial will be held at a later date at the OaklandCemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa.  Memorial contributions have been established, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel.  Online condolences to the Thompson family may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel website, Loren C. “Skip” McDonough, 86, of Davenport, peacefully went to be with His Heavenly Father at 3:45 PM, Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the Clarissa C. Cornelia “Connie” Moorman, age 93, peacefully passed away on Jan. 7, 2014 at Bickford ALF, Burlington, IA.  
Born 6/27/1920, she was the daughter of Clarence (Doc) & Hettie Rider Johnson. Connie was raised on a farm near Belfast, Iowa, coming to Burlington to attend business college.  She was an athlete and horsewoman in her youth and loved all animals, especially horses & dogs throughout her life.  
She was married for 59 years to Orlo Moorman who predeceased her in 1999. Continue Reading

H. Darlene Dean, age 89 of Morning Sun, died Tuesday January 14, 2014 at the MorningSunCareCenter.  The daughter of George and Lulu (Wolverton) Bryant, she was born February 10, 1924 at Morning Sun.  On November 14, 1941 she married Floyd “Peck” Dean at Canton, MO.  She was a graduate of the MorningSunHigh School.  She was a lifelong member of the MorningSunUnitedMethodistChurch.  She was a homemaker.  
Survivors include:  her husband of Morning Sun; two sons, Ralph Dean of Morning Sun;  Lonnie Dean of Brighton, CO; two daughters, Trudy Hopkins of Ottumwa; Georgeanne Robinson of Keosauqua; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren;

Gloria Geraldine Bell, 67, of Burlington, died at 7:40 PM Sunday, January 12, 2014, at her home.  

Born November 26, 1946, in Jerseyville, IL, she was the daughter of John James and Gloria Maudine Scott Brock. On March 27, 1993, she married Wayne Herman Bell in Burlington.  

Gloria was a homemaker and was a cashier for 40 years, retiring in 2007.

William Charles Bowen, 77, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.      
Born on October 27, 1936 in Lomax, Illinois, he was the son of Edward Roscoe and Mamie Ella Buck Bowen. He married Idella Oline Olson on March 22, 1958 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

She was born July 9, 1929 near Nokomis, Illinois, the daughter of John Wesley and Marguerite Thacker Flannigan. On February 15, 1953, she married Clarence Junior Hawk in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. Frank D. Grasham, age 85, of Wapello, died Monday evening, January 6, 2014, at his home.  The son of Max D. and Cleda M. Moore Grasham, he was born on August 4, 1928 at Wapello.  He married Marilyn Liebbrand on June 25, 1950 in Muscatine.  She preceded him in death on April 1, 1968.  He married Idella D. Dukek Fletcher on September 27, 1969 in Muscatine.  She also preceded him in death on March 8, 1998.  He married Barbara J. Howell Johnson on September 5, 1998 in Clarinda. Frank graduated from Wapello High School.  He served in the US Navy during WW II.  He worked for several years at IAAP in Middletown and then as a Union Pipefitter at Monsanto in Muscatine.  He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wapello and the Wapello VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166.  He enjoyed trapping, fishing, and billiards. His family includes his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Carla McDowell of Hartville, Ohio and Lynne & Daryl Behrens of Muscatine; step-children, Tom Fletcher and Danny Fletcher both of Wapello, Connie Johnson of Riverside, Linda & Jeff Johnson of Sigourney, Randy Johnson of Columbus Junction, Billy & Sherry Johnson of Libertyville, and Joyce & Steve Hamilton of Lone Tree; two granddaughters; two great granddaughters; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Loretta & Kenneth ‘Bud’ Smith of Davenport and Marcia & Dave Valley of Racine, Wisconsin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and first and second spouses.
