Born April 20, 1940, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of John James and Elaine Elizabeth Christy. On June 1, 1975, she married Dwight Harold Senf in Oquawka, IL. He died September 30, 2003. Hershell C. Waddell, 85 of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Raritan, Illinois, died at 8:58 p.m. Sunday May 4, 2014 at Sunny Brook Assisted Living Center in Burlington. He was born November 25, 1928 in Cave City, Kentucky, the son of Jake and Nora Sell Waddell. On May 5, 1952, he married Carolyn Jane Harden in Raritan. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2014. Obituaries Wednesday April 30th

Kenneth Charles Hartman, age 80, of Wapello, died Monday morning, April 28, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City. The son of Lester Sr. and Winifred Anhalt Hartman, he was born on March 29, 1934 in Burlington. Kenneth married Lea Richardson on June 14, 1958 in Washington, Iowa. Kenneth went to Mediapolis School, served in the United States Navy from 1953-1957 on the USS Sierra AD18. Ralph Ernest “Ernie” Painter Jr., 85, of rural LaHarpe, IL died at 6:14PM, Friday April 25, 2014 at his home.  

Ernie was born on July 24, 1928 in LaHarpe, the son of Ernest and Vera Gittings Painter Sr. On August 26, 1950, he married Patricia Whelan at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet, IL. Together, they had three children: Mary Ellen (stillborn) in 1952, Kathleen in 1953, and Thomas Michael in 1955.

The graveside inurnment for Mrs. Sharon Spraker Kurth, 64, of Mesa, Arizona and formerly Mt. Pleasant, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3rd, at Burge Cemetery, rural New London. Pastor David Mixon will officiate and the family will receive friends at Elliott Chapel, New London immediately following the service. A memorial has been established for Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, Arizona.

Robert Patrick “Pat” Griswold, 76 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died 10:30 pmMonday April 14, 2014 at The Madison, Fort Madison, Iowa.  He was born March 17, 1938 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Frank and Aline (Davis) Griswold.  On February 9, 1964, he married Jeanne Fullenkamp at West Point, Iowa.  She survives. He was a 1956 FortMadisonHigh School graduate.  He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve.  For 41 years, he worked in banking, retiring from Farmers Savings Bank, Wever.  He was a member of the Elks, Kiwanis, God’s Portion Day chairman, Tri-State Rodeo chairman, and a board member of the FortMadisonArtCenter.  He was a member of the Holy Family Parish, and the Knight of Columbus.  He loved traveling to Florida, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Jeanne Griswold, of Fort Madison, Iowa; three sons: Jay (Lisa) Griswold, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Roger (Lori) Griswold, of Fort Madison; Ryan (Faith) Griswold, of Rhode Island; three daughters: Vicky (Andy) Prosser, of West Des Moines, Iowa; Bobbi (Craig) Ahlen, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Cathy (Tom) Wilkens, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one brother, Sim Griswold, of Mequon, Wisconsin; two sisters: Linda (Dave) Eldridge, of New Boston, Illinois; Becky (Dave) Boley, of Marceline, Missouri; 15 grandchildren: Jamie, Nick, Emily, Jordan (Jenny), Cameron, Nicole, Patrick, Jenna, Heather, Sydni, Isaac, Anna, James, Noah, and Aidan; one great grandson, Graeme; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Richard Griswold. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Holy Family Parish, Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Madison, Iowa, with Father Mark P. Spring as Celebrant.  His family will greet friends after mass at McAleer Hall across from the church.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Holy Trinity Catholic and Quincy Notre Dame, contributions may be made at the service at church or the Barr Memorial Chapel, FortMadison.  Online condolences to the Griswold Family may be made from the Barr Memorial Chapel, www.barrmemorialchapel.com. Obituaries Monday April 21st

Margaret June Grimm, age 89, of Wapello, died Thursday evening, April 17, 2014, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.  Margaret was the daughter of Lydia and Hans Friederich, born on June 9, 1924 in Elgin, Iowa.  She married Mark Grimm on June 17, 1951 in Taylor, Missouri. Margaret graduated from Palmyra High School in Missouri.  She was a homemaker, raising her family of five children.  She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a young lady and lived her entire life by her faith, love for her family, and joy of serving others.  Margaret was known for her ability to make delicious meals for family and friends. Margaret loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly.  She had a talent for painting pictures and putting difficult puzzles together.  Margaret went on many world-wide trips with her husband. Her family includes a daughter, Bev & Keith Kuntz of Wapello; four sons, Curt & Karen Grimm and Kent & Denise Grimm both of Wapello, Chris Grimm of Burlington, and Steve & Christina Grimm of Wapello; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and a twin sister, Mildred & Paul Butikofer of Elgin.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mark; two sisters, Rose Curry and Mabel Hodel both of California; and two brothers, Elmer Reitz of Kahoka, Missouri and Hans Reitz of Taylor, Missouri.
