New London Moves On, Mount Pleasant Does Not

New London is moving on to the Class 1A softball semifinals after beating Newell Fonda in a dominant 9-1 victory. The second ranked Tigers play seventh ranked Logan-Magnolia on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant was knocked out of championship contention following a loss to Winterset in the class 4A quarterfinals in Fort Dodge. In Prep Baseball, Mediapolis is gearing up to play Iowa City Regina in the class 2A substate finals tonight at 7 in Iowa City. Jordan Spieth fell short of winning the coveted grand slam of golf, missing the British Open playoff round by just won stroke, Zach Johnson won the playoff bid to take home the British Open Trophy. Mount Pleasant Wins, Heads to State

Mount Pleasant will be heading to the state softball tournament following a win against Assumption at home Tuesday night in the Class 4A regional final, 3-1. Baseball action it was Notre Dame over Holy Trinity 9-1. West Burlington took down Central Lee 8-6. Burlington wrapped up their regular season with a 9-1 win over Mount Pleasant. New London Stamps State Ticket

New London is headed to Fort Dodge for the state softball tournament following a win over Sigourney 2-1. They’ll play Newell-Fonda in the first round of that tournament on Monday. Mount Pleasant took down Keokuk 6-3 in the class 4A regional semifinals. In Baseball, Holy Trinity took down WACO 4-3. Burlington Bees finally got something to work last night, downing the Quad Cities River Bandits 3-2 in Midwest League Play. Continue Reading

Spieth Wins John Deere Classic

Jordan Spieth won the John Deere Classic just a few miles to our north in Silvis, Illinois. It’s the 21 year old’s second John Deere Classic title in three years. He finished on the second playoff hole to take the tournament from Tom Gillis. A late rally couldn’t save the Burlington Bees from falling to the Quad Cities River Bandits, 3-2 in Midwest League Play. Bees scored their only two runs in the 8th inning following what was almost a no-hitter by the River Bandits’ Justin Ferrell. Continue Reading

West Burlington Softball Season Comes to an End

The West Burlington Notre Dame softball team had their season come to an end last night as they fell to 11th ranked West Liberty in the class 3A regional Quarterfinal, 3-1. They finish their season at 22-14. New London routed Keota 13-0 in Class 1A off a no hitter by Morgan Christner. 9th ranked Wapello beat Lisbon, 7-3. Mid Prairie over Central Lee, 12-0.
