The state title-winning Holy Trinity girls volleyball team and its fans celebrated yesterday(Sun) afternoon in the school gym. One after another, the players and coaches looked back at the Crusader’s first-ever championship season, which saw them go 48-4, culminating in a convincing win over the Central Lyon Lions Friday night, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-8. The Class 1A title is the first ever won by a Holy Trinity team.

The Holy Trinity girls volleyball team will get another shot at a state title. The Crusaders fought back from behind in all three games, beating Tripoli 25-20, 25-23 and 25-17 last night at the U-S Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. Holy Trinity…now 47-4…will take on 38-3 Central Lyon tonight at 7 o’clock (and you can watch the contest on Iowa Public Television.)
Holy Trinity won and New London lost, in the Iowa girls state volleyball tournament Class 1A quarterfinals last night. The top-rated Crusaders swept #8 LeMars Gehlen 25-15, 25-13 and 25-17 at the U-S Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. Holy Trinity…now 46-4…will take on 4th-ranked Tripoli(27-13) tonight at 6 o’clock in the semifinals. The Panthers got to the semi’s by beating 5th-rated New London 25-13, 25-11 and 25-21. The Tigers’ season ends with a record of 35-8.
Top-rated Holy Trinity and 5th-ranked New London will both be in action later today(Weds) at the Iowa girls Class 1A state volleyball tournament in Cedar Rapids. The 45-4 Crusaders take on a well-known opponent…23-14 LeMars Gehlen…at 4 o’clock on Court One of the U-S Cellular Center. This will be the 3rd time in the last five years that Holy Trinity and the 8th-rated Jays play each other at the state tournament. At 6 o’clock this(Weds) evening, the number-5 New London Tigers…at 35-7…will battle 4th-rated Tripoli…who enter the game with a record of 26-13. The Panthers have been to the state tournament 16 times in the last 17 years and have won 11 championships during that time. The Tigers are back at state for the first time since 2009.
