Crusaders, Tigers Tested Today

Top-rated Holy Trinity and 5th-ranked New London will both be in action later today(Weds) at the Iowa girls Class 1A state volleyball tournament in Cedar Rapids. The 45-4 Crusaders take on a well-known opponent…23-14 LeMars Gehlen…at 4 o’clock on Court One of the U-S Cellular Center. This will be the 3rd time in the last five years that Holy Trinity and the 8th-rated Jays play each other at the state tournament. At 6 o’clock this(Weds) evening, the number-5 New London Tigers…at 35-7…will battle 4th-rated Tripoli…who enter the game with a record of 26-13.   The Panthers have been to the state tournament 16 times in the last 17 years and have won 11 championships during that time.   The Tigers are back at state for the first time since 2009. Blackhawks Still Unbeaten

In mens college basketball over the weekend….. SCC…now 5-0…defeated Kennedy-King Saturday, 64-42, in the last game of the Golden Eagle Classic.  The Blackhawks don’t play again until this Saturday.

Crusaders, Tigers Headed to State Volleyball Tourney!

In high school volleyball last night…..  

1A regional title game – top-ranked Holy Trinity swept Moravia 25-6, 25-7 and 25-9. The 45-4 Crusaders will go to their 5th straight state tournament next Wednesday(4 PM) against LeMars Gehlen in Cedar Rapids.  

1A regional title game – 5th rated New London outlasted Iowa Valley at Washington 25-10, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-21.   The (35-7) Tigers go to state for the first time in five years and will take on Tripoli next Wednesday evening(6 PM), also in Cedar Rapids.

IL 2A sectional semifinal — Williamsville eliminated West Hancock in 2 games

Last Local Hope in Iowa State Football Playoffs Falls

The Van Buren Warriors lost last night to Mount Ayr, 45-14, in the second round of the Class A playoffs.   Van Buren’s season ends with its best record ever: 8-3.

4A – Clear Creek-Amana swept Ft. Madison

         Cedar Rapids Xavier swept Fairfield


3A – Mediapolis swept Davis County

         West Liberty swept Mid-Prairie
