Bettendorf and Burlington both shot 329’s at the Clinton Invitational, but Bettendorf won a 5th score tie-breaker to take the trophy yesterday. Jared Hoelzen shot a 77, Jace Mueller an 80 for the Grayhounds.
Jacob Wetzel carded a 40 for West Central, as the Heat placed third behind Macomb and Monmouth-Roseville at Gibson Woods. Macomb’s Graham Conrad won medalist honors with a 35 to lead his team to a 154 total…Monmouth-Roseville’s team score was 160…and West Central shot a 180.

The Burlington City Council said okay tonight to a study that will determine whether the community can raise $6,000,000 – $7,000,000 for an indoor addition to the RecPlex. The project would include four basketball courts, a full-sized convertible soccer field and batting cages, among other features and would be approximately 72,000 square feet. Matt Shinn of Two Rivers Bank says the concept was at the top of the list of community desires, as determined by the “IMAGINE” project in 2010. (Local development arm) Grow Greater Burlington has agreed to donate the land, if the building is started within two years. Continue Reading
In local racing, Josh Schneiderman of West Burlington won $2,000 in the 25-lap 305 Sprint Car Feature at 34 Raceway and was making a strong push to catch Brian Brown in the 30-lap MOWA 410 Sprint Car Feature, when Schneiderman’s car got tangled up with a lapped car and flipped over on the second turn. His crew got him going again, but Brown won the race. Austen Becerra of Carthage(IL) won the Outlaw 4-Cylinders.
The Burlington Bees playoff series with Cedar Rapids is tied at a game apiece, after last night’s 2-1 loss to the Kernels. The two Western Division teams will play the ”rubber” game tonight at 6:30 at Community Field.
