The Burlington Bees have signed a 2-year extension of their player development contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Taylor Brennan hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 7th inning and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Burlington Bees 9-5 last night at Fox Cities Stadium. They’ll play again tonight and the Bees then return home for their final three games of the regular season, against the Quad Cities River Bandits. A trio of Burlington pitchers allowed just three hits last night in Appleton and the Bees shut out the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 1-0. The Bees are now 28-37 in the second half of the season and 66-68 overall. After tomorrow night, they’ll return to Community Field to wrap up the regular season with a 3-game home stand against the Quad Cities River Bandits and the first round of the playoffs will begin next Wednesday in Cedar Rapids. The Burlington Bees lost again to the Kane County Cougars last night at Community Field. The score was 6-1, as 10 Bees went down swinging and Burlington’s catcher committed a crucial error. BHS lost a double-dual meet to Rock Island 105-53 and Davenport West 98-60. The Rocks edged West 82-80.

Wapello placed third at the WACO tournament, beating the host team in the consolation match 25-19 and 25-23. Iowa Valley won the tournament title by defeating Pekin in the championship match 25-17 and 25-21.

It took awhile, but the Burlington Bees finally ended the Kane County Cougars’ 13-game winning streak yesterday. It was kind of ironic, because the Bees had a 6-game losing streak going and hadn’t defeated the Cougars all season long. The final score was 2-1, Burlington. The Bees will host Kane County again tonight and tomorrow night, before heading to Appleton, Wisconsin to face the Timber Rattlers. You can hear all the action on KBUR, starting tonight at 6:10.

The Burlington Bees recognized Susan Denk last night with a moment of silence before the game. The long-time Hawk Eye sports writer covered the local minor league team for 15 years, before dying suddenly Monday of an apparent heart attack. She was just 39.
