Bees Lose to Loons; BHS Baseballers Out at Substate Level

The Burlington Bees were shut out by the Great Lakes Loons 1-nothing last night at Community Field. The two teams will go at it again tonight and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:10.  

In high school baseball…

Iowa City West scored 8 runs in the first inning, on its way to a 14-4, five-inning win over the Burlington Grayhounds. It was the title game of the 4A substate competition, so Burlington ends its season with a record of 22-16.   

At the girls state softball tournament…

The Lady Falcons of West Burlington-Notre Dame lost to Spirit Lake 3-2 yesterdaty and finished 8th in Class 3A. Continue Reading

Lone Tree eliminated Notre Dame, by winning the Class 1A Substate-5 title game 2-1 in Washington(IA) last night.   The Nikes end their season with a record of 17-10. In 2A play, Iowa City Regina ended Louisa-Muscatine’s season with an 11-1, 6-inning victory at the substate final in Solon. Continue Reading


WB-ND falls to Bondurant-Farrar

Defending champion Bondurant-Farrar rolled to a 9-4 victory over West Burlington/Notre Dame in a class 3A quarterfinal round game. Coach Roger Roland’s team started quickly by scoring seven runs in the first inning. West Burlington/Notre Dame coach David Oleson says he was proud of the way his team battled back… It was too big of a hill for the Falcons to climb out of as they fall to 23-13. Continue Reading

SCC Blackhawks

No Volleyball at SCC until they find a Coach

Southeastern Community College has had to suspend their 2014-2015 volleyball season for now. According to a press release from the school, they are still in the process of securing a suitable head volleyball coach. Head coach Gary Anderson left SCC in February to coach at Iowa Central Community College. Since then, the college has had two rounds of interviews and the applicants didn’t’ meet college expectations. The Blackhawks currently have three student-athletes on it’s official roster. Blue Jays Take Quick Lead, Beat Lady Falcons in State Softball

Defending state champ Bondurant-Farrar scored seven times in the first inning, then held on to beat West Burlington-Notre Dame 9-4 in the first round of the girls 3A state softball tournament in Ft. Dodge yesterday. 

The Blue Jays advance to the semifinal round and will take on East Marshall Thursday night at 7 o’clock, while the Lady Falcons play Mid-Prairie this morning at 9 in a semifinal consolation contest. (Mid-Prairie lost to East Marshall 4-3 yesterday.)

WB-ND Softball Travels to Fort Dodge

The West Burlington-Notre Dame girls softball team is in Ft. Dodge, preparing mentally to face defending 3A state champion Bondurant-Farrar at 1 o’clock today. Notre Dame, Van Buren Advance in Dist. 1A Baseball Tourney

The Burlington Bees lost to the South Bend Silver Hawks 6-3 last night at Four Winds Field. The Bees are now 13-13 in the second half of the season and 51-44 overall, while the Hawks move to 17-9 and 57-38.   The teams will play again tonight in South Bend and you can hear all the action on KBUR, starting with Michael Broskowski’s pregame show at 6:15.

The Burlington Bees hit the road last night,beating the South Bend Silverhawks 3-1, thanks to a 3-run fifth inning. 

The two squads will play again tonight and you can hear all the action from northern Indiana beginning at 5:45 on KBUR.

The start times have been set for Iowa’s first three home football games, including the September 13th game against Iowa State. On August 30th, the Hawkeyes take on Northern Iowa at 11 am on the Big 10 Network…..the September 6th game against Ball State will start at 2:30 and will be carried on ESPN 2…..and the Iowa-Iowa State game on the 13th will also begin at 2:30 and will be on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN 2.   ***Of course, you can hear all the Hawkeyes games on KBUR.
