Bees Remember Local Sports Writer Susan Denk Before Playing Kernels

The Burlington Bees recognized Susan Denk last night with a moment of silence before the game. The long-time Hawk Eye sports writer covered the local minor league team for 15 years, before dying suddenly Monday of an apparent heart attack. She was just 39.  

The Bees lost the game 6-5 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Burlington’s 4th defeat in a row.   The two teams will play again tonight at Community Field and you can hear the action on KBUR, starting with the pre-game show at 6:10. Continue Reading

Cougars Beat Bees Again; Special Memorial at Community Field Tonight

The Burlington Bees had the lead three times during yesterday’s game in Kane County, but the Cougars rallied each time and closed out the 8th inning with a 5-run exclamation point. The final score was 7-3.    The Bees are back home tonight to start a 3-game series with Cedar Rapids…and you can hear all the action on KBUR. ***The Des Moines County Humane Society will also hold a memorial tonight at Community Field for former Hawk Eye sportswriter Susan Denk, who died Monday of a heart attack. The team will have a moment of silence for Denk before tonight’s game as well.

Cougars Bite Bees for 9th Straight; Road Trip Ends Today

The Burlington Bees gave the Kane County Cougars their 9th straight win last night, 4-3 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in rural Geneva, Illinois. 

The series wraps up this afternoon at 1 o’clock and the Bees then return home for a 3-game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels beginning tomorrow night at Community Field.  

In boys high school golf, Burlington tied for 4th at the Trojan Blue Top Ridge Invitational in Riverside yesterday.   West Des Moines Valley won it with 309 strokes.   Dubuque Wahlert came in second with a 311.   Bettendorf was third at 315…and the Grayhounds shot a 321, as did Pleasant Valley. Bees Become Cougars’ 8th Straight Victim

The Burlington Bees lost to the Kane County Cougars in suburban Geneva, Illinois last night. The final was 2-1, when Shawon Dunston, Jr. knocked in Trey Martin in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Cougars have now won 8 straight. The Bees and Kane County will play again tonight and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning at 6:10 with the pre-game show.

Bandits Beat Bees; KaneCo Next

The Burlington Bees lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits last night 7- 6 at Modern Woodmen Park. The Bees wrap up their series on the Davenport riverfront this afternoon at 1:15 and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning with the pre-game show at 12:55. Bo Knows Hitting, Bees Win

The Burlington Bees beat the Peoria Chiefs 4-2 last night in the final game of the current home stand.  7th round draft pick and new centerfielder Bo Way was 3-for-4 last night, after going 4-for-5 the night before.   The Bees travel to Davenport to begin a 3-game series tonight against the Quad Cities River Bandits. Newcomb Makes Bees Debut

The Los Angeles Angels’ first-round draft pick did a pretty good job, but left-hander Sean Newcomb’s debut as a Burlington Bee was limited to 40 pitches by Manager Bill Richardson…

Bees Lose to Lumber Kings

The Burlington Bees scored first, but the lead didn’t last long…and by the end of the 4th inning they were down 4-1 to the Clinton Lumber Kings.
