Bees Close First Half with Playoff Spot, Five All-Stars

The Burlington Bees ended the first half of the season yesterday afternoon with a 13-3 win over the Kernels in Cedar Rapids. The Bees also earned the first-half wild card playoff berth, with a record of 38-31.     The Midwest League All-Star Game is tomorrow at West Michigan and the Bees begin the second half of their season this coming Thursday, at home, against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Burlington Bees

Bees on Precipice of Playoffs

The Burlington Bees beat the Clinton Lumber Kings 3-2 in 11 innings last night at Ashford University Field. The victory, coupled with Peoria and Quad Cities losses, gives the Bees a two-game lead for second place and the first-half wild-card spot, with three games to go before the break.   Tonight, the Bees face the Kernels in Cedar Rapids and you can hear all the action on KBUR, starting with the pre-game show at 6:15.

Burlington’s Landon Summers threw a no-hitter in the second game of a double-header, allowing the Grayhounds to sweep Pleasant Valley 7-1 and 12-0 on the road. Elsewhere…

Burlington Bees

Bees Win; Closer to Playoffs

The Burlington Bees beat the Clinton Lumber Kings 8-6 last night on the road and the win gives Burlington a one-game lead for second place in the division, with four games left in the first half of the season. 

The 35-30 Bees and 30-34 Lumber Kings wrap up their series in Clinton tonight and you can hear the game on KBUR.

Burlington Bees

Bees Lose, but Still in Playoff Hunt

The Burlington Bees are now in a tie for second place and the first-half-of-the-season wild card spot, after losing 4-2 last night to the Lumber Kings in Clinton. The Quad Cities River Bandits beat Cedar Rapids 6-2 last night and they too are now 34-30, nine games behind the 43-21 Kane County Cougars in the Midwest League’s Western Division. The Bees and Lumber Kings play again tonight on the road and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning at 6:10 with the pre-game show.

Bees Take Twin Bill from Beloit

The Burlington Bees won two more last night, 6-5 and 3-1 over the Beloit Snappers at Community Field. The double victory…coupled with Peoria’s win over the Quad Cities…puts the Bees one game up in the Western Division wild-card race, with six games to go in the first half of the season.     Tonight, the Bees try their luck in Clinton and the game with the Lumber Kings will be broadcast on KBUR, beginning with the pregame show at 6:10.   

In girls high school soccer, Pleasant Valley ended Keokuk’s season with a 6-0 Class 2A regional final win over the Chiefs.   Keokuk closes out the year with a record of 15-4, while PV moves on to play Dallas Center-Grimes in the state quarterfinals on Thursday.

Bees Win Twice Over Beloit

The Burlington Bees won twice yesterday at Community Field, the first game a completion of the April 27th suspended contest, which the Bees took from Beloit 3-2…..and then 3-1 in the second game against the Snappers.  

The Bees host Beloit again tonight in a doubleheader, beginning at 5.

Bees Within Stinging Distance of Playoffs; Play Again Tonight

The Burlington Bees still have a chance to make the playoffs, after beating the Quad Cities River Bandits last night 2-1 at Community Field.  

With Peoria’s loss, the Bees are now a-half-game out of second place and the second playoff spot.   The Bees and Bandits play again tonight at 6:30 in Burlington and you can hear the game on KBUR.  

In high school soccer…The Columbus boys were eliminated from the Class 1A playoffs (in the quarterfinals) yesterday, when they lost to powerhouse Dyersville Beckman 3-0. The Wildcats end their season with an 11-5 record.   Dyersville is riding a 13-game winning streak and the Trailblazers face Mid-Prairie today at noon.  

At the girls state tennis tournament…ND-WB’s Stephanie Wills, in singles, and Keokuk’s doubles team of Lakyn Boltz and Alexis Kemp, were all eliminated yesterday in Iowa City, Wills in the quarterfinals and Kemp and Boltz in the first round. Continue Reading
