Bees Win; Playoff Hopes Alive

The Burlington Bees beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 6-3 last night at Community Field. The Bees are now a-half-game behind the Bandits for third place in the Western Division and 1 ½ games behind Peoria for the first half (of the season) wild-card spot.   The Bees and Bandits play again tonight in Burlington and you can hear the game on KBUR, starting with the pregame show at 6:10.

Homer-Happy Bees Beat Kernels

The Burlington Bees hit three homers yesterday afternoon on the road, on their way to a 6-4 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Today’s an off-day for the whole Midwest League and the Bees will return to Community Field tomorrow night, to begin a series with the Quad Cities River Bandits.   (You’ll be able to hear all the action on KBUR.)

Bees Lose, Girls Head to State Golf

The Burlington Bees lost to Cedar Rapids 4-3  yesterday afternoon on the road, as the Kernels’ Chad Christensen cracked an 8th inning homer to break a 3-all tie.  

The two teams will wrap up their series today at noon and the Bees return to Community Field Wednesday to face the Quad Cities River Bandits. (There are no games scheduled for tomorrow.)

 

The Iowa girls state golf tournament gets underway today and New London is among the top teams in Class 1A, Mt. Pleasant in 4A.   New London plays in Marshalltown, Mt. Pleasant in Ames, and Central Lee’s Alex Krehbiel…who qualified individually in 3A…will also swing at the Ames Country Club. Continue Reading

Bees Lose Third Straight; Bears Advance in Boys Soccer

The Burlington Bees lost again last night to the Peoria Chiefs, 3-1, this time in 9 innings and without a rain delay. Burlington has now lost 3-in-a-row and is 25-27 on the year; the Chiefs up their first-half record to 29-24. The two teams will wrap up their series tonight in Peoria and you can hear the game on KBUR. Saturday, the Bees begin a 3-game series in Cedar Rapids against the Kernels. In high school baseball…

On the college baseball front, the SCC Blackhawks have placed 10 players on the all-region team and Coach Justin Schulte has been named North Plains District coach-of-the-year.   SCC set a new school record for wins in a season…45…and went to the NJCAA World Series for the first time since 1994. Rain, Xtra Innings = Bees Loss

After a two-hour rain delay and 12 innings of play, the Burlington Bees lost to the Chiefs in Peoria early this morning. The final score, after about six hours, was 2-1. The two teams will go at it again tonight and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning with Michael Broskoski’s pre-game show, at 6:10.

Bandits Outscore Bees; SCC Season Over

The Burlington Bees and Quad Cities River Bandits slugged it out last(Tues) night at Community Field, but in the end the Bandits scored last to beat the Bees 10-9. Burlington begins a 3-game series at Peoria tonight, and that’ll be followed by three more on the road at Cedar Rapids.   You can hear all the action, beginning tonight at 6:10, on KBUR.  

In college baseball, SCC was eliminated from the NJC-double-A, Division-2 World Series yesterday by Mesa, Arizona.  The Blackhawks end their season at 45-21; that’s a new school record for wins.

Bees Win as Fish Catches Big One

Michael Fish’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning…his second homer of the game…gave the Burlington Bees a 7-5 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits yesterday(Mon) at Community Field. The two teams will play again tonight in Burlington and you can hear all the action on KBUR, beginning at 6:10.  

 

In college baseball, the SCC Blackhawks were shut out by Madison(WI) College in the second round of the NJCAA, Division-2 World Series.   SCC will play again today at 3:30 against Mesa, Arizona. If they lose this afternoon, the Blackhawks are out of it…but if they win, they’ll play again Thursday night.  

 

It’s tournament time(substate quarterfinals) for Iowa boys soccer and here are some of the games tonight:

Local Teams Second, Fourth, Fifth in State Track & Field

The West Burlington-Notre Dame boys track & field team placed second at state in Class 2A.  

Fort Madison’s boys tied for 5th in 3A…(WACO tied for 10th in 1A.) Among the girls, Mt. Pleasant finished second in 3A. In Illinois, the Illini West girls came in 4th in 1A. The Burlington Bees beat the Peoria Chiefs 4-3 and they’ll play again this(Sun) afternoon at 2 at Community Field. Continue Reading
