SCC Basketball NOT in National Tournament

The Southeastern Community College Mens Basketball Team will not participate in the NJCAA Division 1 National Tournament. The qualifiers, which this year include four at large schools, were named yesterday, and SCC is not one of them. The Blackhawks were ranked 17th nationwide in their division when the regular season ended. The teams that made the at-large list were #3 Columbia State, #4 Harcum, #5 South Plains, and #8 Trinity Valley. The Blackhawk’s arch-rival, Indian Hills of Ottumwa, will represent this area as the regional and district champion. Continue Reading

IT’S OFFICIAL – THE SCC MEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON IS OVER.   THE NJC-DOUBLE-A ANNOUNCED ITS LIST OF NATIONAL TOURNAMENT QUALIFIERS YESTERDAY(SUN)…WHICH THIS YEAR INCLUDES FOUR AT-LARGE TEAMS…AND THE BLACKHAWKS ARE NOT ON IT. 

 

(FYI:)  THE FOUR SCHOOLS THAT WERE CHOSEN ARE NUMBER-3 COLUMBIA STATE…NUMBER-4 HARCUM…NUMBER-5 SOUTH PLAINS…AND NUMBER-8 TRINITY VALLEY.  WHEN THE REGULAR SEASON ENDED, SCC WAS RANKED NUMBER-17.   THE BLACKHAWKS ARCH-RIVAL…INDIAN HILLS OF OTTUMWA…WILL REPRESENT THIS AREA, HAVING WON THE REGION AND DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS.   THE NJCAA WILL ANNOUNCE THE PAIRINGS TODAY(MON).

Notre Dame Girls Prep for 1A Title Game

AT THE IOWA GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS 1A BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT YESTERDAY(THUR)…  

NOTRE DAME CAME BACK TO BEAT JANESVILLE 65 TO 58…AND THE NIKES NOW ADVANCE TO THE TITLE GAME TONITE(FRI) AT 6 O’CLOCK AGAINST TOP-RATED NEWELL-FONDA, WHOSE GIRLS FINISHED SECOND IN THE STATE LAST YEAR.  BY THE WAY, YOU CAN HEAR TONITE’S GAME ON KBUR.  

IN CLASS 3A, THE MEDIAPOLIS BULLETTES SEASON ENDED YESTERDAY(THUR) AFTERNOON, WHEN THEY LOST TO MOC-FLOYD VALLEY 64 TO 51.  THE WINNING “LADY DUTCH” GOT 46 POINTS FROM ALEXIS CONAWAY, WHILE DARBY MASSNER HAD 16 FOR MEPO.

Lady Nikes Advance to State 1A Title Game!

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, A BURLINGTON NOTRE DAME GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM HAS ADVANCED TO THE TITLE GAME OF A STATE TOURNAMENT.  

THE CLASS 1A LADY NIKES WERE BEHIND MOST OF THIS MORNING’S CONTEST, BUT RALLIED TO BEAT JANESVILLE, 65-58, AT WELLS FARGO ARENA IN DES MOINES.  

NOTRE DAME’S OPPONENT FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WILL BE NEWELL-FONDA, 65-34 WINNERS OVER COLE-NESCO LAST NIGHT.   THE TWO TEAMS WILL GO AT IT TOMORROW NIGHT AT 6 FOR THE 1A CROWN.  

ANOTHER LOCAL TEAM, THE MEDIAPOLIS BULLETTES, ARE IN ACTION THIS EVENING AT 5, AS THEY FACE MOC-FLOYD VALLEY IN A 3A SEMIFINAL. Continue Reading

NOTRE DAME VS. JANESVILLE – 10 AM – SEMIFINALS (KBUR) THE WINNER ADVANCES TO THE TITLE GAME AGAINST NEWELL-FONDA FRIDAY EVENING AT 6.    NEWELL-FONDA ADVANCED TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH A 65 TO 34 WIN OVER COLE-NESCO.  

 

IN CLASS 3A…MEDIAPOLIS PLAYS MOC-FLOYD VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON AT 5 O’CLOCK IN THE SEMIFINALS.  THE WINNER WILL TAKE ON EITHER CRESTWOOD OR UNITY CHRISTIAN, WHO PLAY EACH OTHER TODAY AT 3:15.  THE 3A TITLE GAME IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT 4.

NOTRE DAME 90, ADAIR-CASEY 50 (N-D’S TAYLOR HICKEY LED ALL SCORERS WITH 27 POINTS – THE LADY NIKES WILL PLAY JANESVILLE IN THE SEMIFINALS THURSDAY MORNING AT 10…AND YOU CAN LISTEN TO THE GAME ON KBUR.    THE OTHER 1-A SEMIFINAL GAME IS TOMORROW(WED) NITE AT 8:30; COLE-NESCO VS. NEWELL-FONDA.  COLE-NESCO ELIMINATED LYNNVILLE-SULLY 38-34 AND NEWELL-FONDA BEAT BEDFORD 73-37.   JANESVILLE DEFEATED ROCKFORD 58-48.)

Lady Nikes Leave Town in Style for State Tourney

THE BURLINGTON NOTRE DAME COMMUNITY SAID GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK TO THE LADY NIKES BASKETBALL TEAM YESTERDAY(SUN), AS THEY HEADED TO DES MOINES AND THE STATE TOURNAMENT.  

COACH KOLLIN ALFRED SAID IT’S BEEN AN UP-AND-DOWN YEAR.  PRINCIPAL RON GLASGOW…WHO WAS GIVEN A SPECIAL AWARD FOR HIS SUPPORT…IS RETIRING AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND SAYS  HE NEVER THOUGHT HE’D STAY AS LONG AS HE DID (7 YEARS), AFTER 35 YEARS IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. NOTRE DAME ENGLISH TEACHER MARY-JO MILLER GAVE HER TRADITIONAL SALUTE TO THE NIKES, IN POETRY FORM, IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. TOP-RATED INDIAN HILLS DEFEATED THE SCC BLACKHAWKS SATURDAY NITE 93 TO 89 IN OTTUMWA, TO WIN THE REGION-11 MENS COLLEGE BASKETBALL TITLE.  THE WARRIORS MOVE ON TO PLAY EITHER WILLISTON STATE OR NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE THURSDAY FOR THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP.   THE BLACKHAWKS MAY STILL HAVE A SHOT AT MORE POST-SEASON PLAY, HOWEVER — THE NJC-DOUBLE-A HAS A NEW FORMAT THAT ALLOWS FOUR, AT-LARGE BERTHS AND SCC COULD GET ONE.  THEY’LL MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT MONDAY(MARCH 10TH).
