Bees, Kings Succumb to Nature

The Burlington Bees – Clinton Lumber Kings game last night (at Ashford University Field) was suspended by rain, with the score tied at one in the bottom of the second inning.  

It’ll resume today, as part of a double-header, beginning at 12:30.  

 

The Region-Eleven, Division-Two college baseball tournament was postponed again yesterday by wet grounds in Waterloo.   DMACC and NIACC are again scheduled to play today at 4, with the winner taking on SCC tonight at 7.  

 

Wallace State University’s Aksel Olsen will begin defense of his NJC-DOUBLE-A, Division-One golf title today at Spirit Hollow in Burlington.   The competition runs through Friday, with 18 holes played each day.  

 

Also in golf, the BHS girls placed second to Pleasant Valley in the MAC tournament at Glynns Creek. Continue Reading

Bees Off Sunday; Play at Clinton

The Burlington Bees were off yesterday(Sun), as was the rest of the Midwest League, but tonight the 16-18 club plays at Clinton and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:10.  

The SCC baseball team was rained out yesterday at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo. The Blackhawks will play either DMACC or NIACC tonight at 7 o’clock in the Region-eleven, Division-2 tournament.  

In local racing, he’s been trying for eight years and Saturday night Shane Watts of Burlington finally won the IMCA Stock Car Feature at 34 Raceway.   The other winners were Rich Smith in the IMCA Modifieds…Bobby Anders in the IMCA Sport Modifieds…John Schulz in the 305 Sprints…Dan Keltner in the Mod Lites…and Austin Becerra in the 4-Cylinders.

Bees Loss Streak Now at 5

Chad Hinshaw blasted a first-inning homer, but that was it, and the Burlington Bees lost their 5th game in a row last night, 5-1 to the visiting Clinton Lumber Kings.  

 

The two teams will go at it again this morning at 11:30 at Community Field and the Bees will start Victor Alcantara(0-1) against the Clinton’s Carlos Misell(4-1).

The ND-WB boys won their first dual meet in the last 5-plus years, 5-4 over Davis County.   The ND-WB girls also beat Davis County 6-3

Nikes Win “E” Bracket at Adidas Tourney of Champs

At the Adidas (soccer) Tournament of Champions at Burlington’s RecPlex, the Notre Dame-West Burlington/Danville girls beat Pekin (3-2) and Decatur Lutheran (1-0), to finish the weekend 3-0 and win the Bracket-E round robin competition.

Cougars Take Bees in 11

The Burlington Bees lost 3-2 last night to the Kane County Cougars in 11 innings.  

They’ll play again tonight in Geneva, Illinois and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning with Michael Broskoski’s pre-game show at 6:10 pm.  

In women’s college softball, SCC lost twice to Jefferson College, 10-2 and 3-1, in the District-J championship series. The Lady Blackawks end their season with a record of 21-29. Continue Reading
