The Burlington Bees took down the Clinton Lumberkings last night 5-1 at Community Field. Bee’s Pitcher Austin Robichaux threw a two hitter over seven innings, only one of those hits managed to score. Cardinals Fall, Mediapolis Wins

In Prep Soccer, Mediapolis fell to Wapello 3-0 at the SEI Superconference Tournament in Wapello yesterday. Wapello plays Danville-New London tomorrow. Burlington Bees pitcher Jeremy Rhoades managed to hold Kane County to not hits until the eighth inning, when the Cougars managed to score three runs to win the game 3-1. St. Louis Cardinals were on the wrong end of a one-hitter by defending Cy Young Pitcher Corey Kluber as they fell to Cleveland 2-0 on the road. Continue Reading

Greyhounds Find Success, Bulls Fall to Cleveland

The Burlington Greyhound Girls won a battle on the soccer pitch last night, downing Clinton 5-3, the Boys team was also victorious over Clinton, 1-0. In other prep soccer action the 6th Ranked Danville-New London Boys Squad won over IMS, 4-0. Keokuk’s undefeated Girls beat Fort Madison 9-0. New London, Burlington See Golf Success, Brady Suspended

The New London Girls Golf Team won the team competition at the SEI Superconference Golf Tournament Monday. They almost swept the whole competition, but were stopped in their tracks by Winfield-Mount Union’s Grace Edwards, who won top marks in the individual category. Meanwhile, across the river, the Burlington Girls Golfers were taking third at the Mississippi Athletic Conference Tournament at Kewanee Dune in Kewanee, Illinois, just behind Pleasant Valley and North Scott. The NFL Champions, the New England Patriots, have been fined $1 million and their quarterback, Tom Brady, has been suspended for four games after an NFL investigation determined that Brady and several members of the Patriots Staff likely knew that balls were deflated during the AFC Championship Game. Lebron Matches Rose Buzzer Beater, SCC Season Ends

The 15th ranked Iowa Hawkeye Baseball Team took down Minnesota 7-1 to complete a series sweep at home. They improved their record to 37-12 overall, 18-3 in the Big 10. The 13th ranked SCC Blackhawks had their season ended with a loss to 12th NIACC 5-3, in the Region 11 tournament. They end the season at 42-18. Cubs lost to Milwaukee 3-2, White Sox won 4-3 over the Reds, Twins fell to Cleveland 8-2, and the Pirates beat the Cardinals 4-3. Continue Reading

Chicago Can’t Stop LBJ, Bees in Rut

The Burlington Bees are still in a rut, dropping their fourth straight game last night against the Beloit Snappers in Wisconsin, 4-1. They return home tonight to take on Peoria at Community Field. St. Louis had their eight game winning streak cut down by the visiting Chicago Cubs as the Cards lost 6-4. The game broke the Cubs four game losing streak. Continue Reading

Bulls Clobber Bucks, Bears take White

After suffering a loss on Wednesday, the Burlington Bees picked right back up with a win last night at home against Kane County. A Bees run in the 13th Inning lifted them past the Cougars 3-2. On the Pro level, Cardinals over the Phillies 9-3, Twins blew past the White Sox 12-2, Royals over the Tigers 8-1. Prep Soccer, Burlington blew a halftime lead to lose to Davenport Central, 5-2. Bees Fall, SCC Wins

The Burlington Bees fell to Kane County last night despite taking an early lead, falling 5-4. Kane County manager Mark Grudzielanek was ejected mere moments into the game for arguing with an umpire while the teams were still exchanging lineup cards. SCC took down Illinois Central College 11-5 on the road in Peoria, their 40th win of the season. St. Louis downed the Phillies 5-2 last night at home. Continue Reading
