West Burlington High School alum Brian Nelson will be inducted into the Wartburg College Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend. The former WB-ND all-state quarterback is now the head coach and A-D at Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, Georgia.
Holy Trinity volleyball player Mikaela Foecke has been named one of the HyVee Horizon Athletes of the week.
It was Senior Night at the Burlington High School pool, but the Lady Grayhound swimmers lost to Davenport West 120 to 55. BHS seniors Mikala Yee…Lydia Benninghoven…Marissa Purdum…Megan Larkins…Kiona Lee…Delaney White…and Alexis Haley competed for the last time as high schoolers.

West Central’s Jacob Wetzel shot an 84 at the Class 1A Brimfield Sectional, good for 10th place and a trip to the state tournament Friday and Saturday in Bloomington. Pleasant Plains, Mercer County and Pittsfield advanced from Brimfield in the team competition.

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — A January trial date has been set for a former Adams County prosecutor charged in the 2006 death of his first wife. Curtis Lovelace has pleaded not guilty in the death of Cory Lovelace. An inquest failed to decide what caused the 38-year-old woman’ death. West Hancock placed second at the Illinois Class 1A regional at Camp Point and now moves on to the Monday sectional at Tuscola. Camp Point Central was first as a team and Macomb third; they too advance. Individually, Dakota Limkemann of Augusta Southeastern with an 81 and Morgan Totsch of Illini West with a 104 will also compete.
