Bees End Regular Season with Win; Playoffs Next in Cedar Rapids

 

The Burlington Bees closed out their regular season yesterday, with an 8-5 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits at Community Field. 

Bees left fielder Trevor Gretzky’s dad…Hockey great Wayne Gretzky…was in the stands and watched his son go 3-for-4, three of the Bees’ 15 hits.     Tomorrow, Burlington travels to Cedar Rapids to begin their playoff journey.

Bandits Beat Bees; Still Miss Playoffs

The Burlington Bees lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits 9-4 yesterday at Community Field, but while that was happening the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers took care of the Beloit Snappers, to grab the last wild-card playoff spot in the Western Division. The Bees, who got in by virtue of their first-half-of-the-season play, will take on the Bandits one more time this afternoon at 2 o’clock.   Burlington begins playoff competition Wednesday in Cedar Rapids. Bees Contract with Parent MLB Club in Anaheim Extended

The Burlington Bees have signed a 2-year extension of their player development contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Bees lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits last night at Community Field 5-1.  The two teams play again this afternoon at 2 and you can catch the game on KBUR. In college football yesterday(Sat), Iowa beat Northern Iowa 31-23…North Dakota State defeated Iowa State 34-14…and the University of Illinois got by Youngstown State 28-17. Continue Reading

Grand Slam Breaks Tie, Kills Bees

Taylor Brennan hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 7th inning and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Burlington Bees 9-5 last night at Fox Cities Stadium. They’ll play again tonight and the Bees then return home for their final three games of the regular season, against the Quad Cities River Bandits. Bees Whitewash Rattlers

A trio of Burlington pitchers allowed just three hits last night in Appleton and the Bees shut out the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 1-0. The Bees are now 28-37 in the second half of the season and 66-68 overall. After tomorrow night, they’ll return to Community Field to wrap up the regular season with a 3-game home stand against the Quad Cities River Bandits and the first round of the playoffs will begin next Wednesday in Cedar Rapids.   You can hear all the action on KBUR, starting with tonight’s game at 6:45.

Bees Beaten by Cougars; BHS Volleyball Opens with Wins

The Burlington Bees lost again to the Kane County Cougars last night at Community Field. The score was 6-1, as 10 Bees went down swinging and Burlington’s catcher committed a crucial error.   Tonight, the Bees play the Timber Rattlers in Appleton, Wisconsin and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45.   (Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the Bees will close out their regular season with a 3-game series against the Quad Cities River Bandits.)

 

In girls high school volleyball yesterday…

BHS beat Davenport North, 25-17, 25-16 and 27-25 to open the season. Illini West defeated Camp Point Central 25-13 and 25-20

 

In girls swimming…

BHS lost a double-dual meet to Rock Island 105-53 and Davenport West 98-60. The Rocks edged West 82-80.  

In boys golf…

Bees Lose;KaneCo Again Tonight

The Burlington Bees lost to the Kane County Cougars 8-3 last night at Community Field. They’ll play again tonight and you can hear the game on KBUR, beginning with Michael Broskowski’s pre-game show at 6:10.  

In high school volleyball yesterday…

Wapello placed third at the WACO tournament, beating the host team in the consolation match 25-19 and 25-23.   Iowa Valley won the tournament title by defeating Pekin in the championship match 25-17 and 25-21.   

In girls golf…

West Central didn’t have enough players for a team score, but Grace Scott shot a 47 and Mia Lange a 78, in a triangular at Macomb. The host team shot a 226 and PORTA a 235. Continue Reading

Bees Break 6-Game Skid by Ending Cougars’ 13-Game Win Streak

It took awhile, but the Burlington Bees finally ended the Kane County Cougars’ 13-game winning streak yesterday. It was kind of ironic, because the Bees had a 6-game losing streak going and hadn’t defeated the Cougars all season long.   The final score was 2-1, Burlington.     The Bees will host Kane County again tonight and tomorrow night, before heading to Appleton, Wisconsin to face the Timber Rattlers. You can hear all the action on KBUR, starting tonight at 6:10.
