At Spirit Hollow Golf Course, Alejandra Arellano and her Wichita State squad proved to be the dominant force during the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championship. Arellano beat out Southern Illinois’ Brooke Cusumano by six shots, scoring 4 over par: 76 strokes. The Notre Dame-West Burlington Nike Boys took down the Burlington Greyhounds on the Tennis Court Last Night, winning 8-1. Burlington’s Girls squad had better luck, they downed Keokuk 6-3. Kernels Drop Bees

The Burlington Bees lost last night against the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the finale of a three game series last night. kernels won 5-2. Bees set out on a six game road trip starting tonight, when they take on Beloit. Chicago Cubs saw victory last night in a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. An eighth inning double spelled trouble for the Burlington Bees last night as they dropped their second game in a three game series to the Kane County Cougars, 4-3. 4th Ranked SCC Blackhawks took down Indian Hills 4-3. In High School Tennis the Notre Dame-West Burlington Girls beat Burlington 8-1. Fort Madison downed Keokuk 6-3. Former Patriots Star, Aaron Hernandez, Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

Former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez has been found guilty of first-degree murder. A Massachusetts jury on Wednesday found Hernandez killed Odin Lloyd on June 17, 2013. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee. He was found shot six times in an industrial park less than a mile from Hernandez’s home. IHSA: Concussion Lawsuit Threatens HS Football in Illinois

CHICAGO (AP) — The nation’s first prep sports governing body to face a class-action concussions lawsuit wants an Illinois judge to dismiss the suit, saying it could kill football programs statewide. The Illinois High School Association says in a filing with Cook County Circuit Court that it’s already doing what it can to improve head-injury management. It says the lawsuit “threatens high school football.” The filing is a first full response to the November lawsuit that seeks court supervision over how high schools manage head injuries. The IHSA filed the response late Friday and provided a copy to The Associated Press. Continue Reading

Bees Open Season Tonight; Blackhawks Score Grand Slam

The Burlington Bees officially open up their 2015 season tonight. The Bees host Brewers affiliate Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with the first pitch at 6:30 tonight at Community Field, kicking off a three game series with the Rattlers. A Phil Velez Grand Slam lifted the SCC Blackhawks to a 6-5 Victory in the second game of a double header against Black Hawk College. The win split the double header. Pacers Forward Chris Copeland Stabbed Outside of New York Nightclub

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland, his wife and another woman were stabbed outside a Manhattan nightclub after an argument. Police say the victims were hospitalized Wednesday with minor injuries. Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird said in a statement they were still gathering information. He says the team’s thoughts are with the injured. Police say the player was stabbed in the abdomen, his wife slashed in the arm and across the breast and backside. Continue Reading

Derrick Rose Could Return to Bulls Tonight

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bulls say Derrick Rose is questionable for their game Wednesday at Orlando. It’s the first time the star point guard has been listed as anything but “out” since his latest knee surgery. Rose had a minor operation Feb. 27 and was expected to miss four to six weeks.
