THE BEES GOT RAINED OUT LAST NITE AND WILL PLAY KANE COUNTY TWICE TONITE, BEGINNING AT 5, TO MAKE UP THE GAME.   (KBUR)

 

IN HIGH SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD, THE MEDIAPOLIS BOYS WON THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT CLASS 2A STATE QUALIFYING MEET.   THE BULLDOGS QUALIFIED FIVE EVENTS FOR THE STATE MEET MAY 16TH THRU THE 18TH IN DES MOINES.   MEPO’S GIRLS HAVE QUALIFIED THREE SO FAR.    WB-ND HIGH JUMPER JEFF GIANNETTINO WENT 6-10 YESTERDAY; THAT’S THE BEST IN THE STATE SO FAR.  WB-ND QUALIFIED FOUR OTHER BOYS AS WELL AND ONE GIRL SO FAR.  

FORT MADISON’S BOYS TEAM HAS QUALIFIED 8 EVENTS FOR THE STATE MEET IN CLASS 3A.   THE KEOKUK BOYS HAVE QUALIFIED IN FIVE EVENTS.  

THE MT. PLEASANT GIRLS SQUAD EARNED 10 STATE BERTHS, WHILE THE PANTHER BOYS QUALIFIED SEVEN.   CENTRAL LEE HAS QUALIFIED ONE GIRL SO FAR.

Bees Lose Again in Late Innings; SCC Holds Out Hope for #2 Seed

THE BURLINGTON BEES GAVE UP SIX LATE-INNING RUNS YESTERDAY(SUN), IN A 7 TO 3 LOSS TO THE LAKE COUNTY CAPTAINS. 

THE BEES…NOW 10 AND 15…LED 3 TO 2 IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 8TH AND HAD A REAL SHOT AT INCREASING THEIR MARGIN, WITH THE BASES LOADED AND JUST ONE OUT…BUT CLEANUP HITTER WADE HINKLE STRUCK OUT AND MICHAEL BOLASKI GROUNDED OUT TO END THE INNING.   LAKE COUNTY THEN SCORED FIVE TIMES IN THE TOP OF THE 9TH …AND BURLINGTON WENT DOWN 1-2-3 IN THE FINAL FRAME.   THE TWO TEAMS PLAY AGAIN THIS(MON) MORNING AT 11:30 AND THE BEES THEN HAVE A DAY OFF, BEFORE RESUMING THEIR HOMESTAND AGAINST THE KANE COUNTY COUGARS WEDNESDAY NITE. 

 

IN COLLEGE BASEBALL…SCC SPLIT A DOUBLE-HEADER WITH DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE YESTERDAY(SUN), LOSING TO THE BEARS 4 TO 1…THEN COMING BACK TO WIN 4 TO 3.   THE TWO TEAMS WILL WRAP UP THEIR SERIES WITH ANOTHER DOUBLE-HEADER TODAY(MON) AT 4 AT DICK WAGNER FIELD.   IT LOOKS LIKE D-MACC HAS EARNED THE TOP-SEED FOR NEXT WEEKEND’S CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT…BUT THE BLACKHAWKS COULD GET THE SECOND SEED WITH TWO WINS TODAY, OR THEY COULD FALL AS LOW AS 4TH.
