Bees Fall, SCC Wins

The Burlington Bees fell to Kane County last night despite taking an early lead, falling 5-4. Kane County manager Mark Grudzielanek was ejected mere moments into the game for arguing with an umpire while the teams were still exchanging lineup cards. White Sox Play Orioles in Empty Stadium

The Burlington Bees took down the Kane County Cougars 5-4 at home yesterday to improve to 12-7 on the year. White Sox will finally play the Orioles tonight after having two games postponed due to rioting in Baltimore. They will play in Baltimore’s Camden Yards tonight in a completely empty stadium–the game will be closed to the public due to the unrest. WBND’s Star Jumper Wins Drake Relays

West Burlington-Notre Dame’s star high jumper vaulted his way to a third straight win at the Drake Relays in Des Moines on Thursday. Senior Jeff Giannettino (Gina-Teeno) is the first athlete ever to win the event three times, winning with a jump of 7’1″. Giannettino will compete at West Point next year. Prep Soccer, Danville-New London’s Boys blanked the Notre Dame Nikes 6-0. Burlington’s Boys took down Mount Pleasant 4-0. Continue Reading

SCC Loses to Muscatine, Bees Beat Beloit

SCC lost a four run lead to fall to Muscatine last night. The 7th ranked Blackhawks gave up six runs in the latter half of the game to lose 6-4. SCC Softball split a double header with Illinois Central, losing 9-2 and winning 7-4 respectively. A three-run, inside the park homerun lifted the Burlington Bees over the Beloit Snappers to take the second game of the series 4-3 in Wisconsin. Arellano Leads Shockers at Spirit Hollow, Blackhawks Down Preds

At Spirit Hollow Golf Course, Alejandra Arellano and her Wichita State squad proved to be the dominant force during the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championship. Arellano beat out Southern Illinois’ Brooke Cusumano by six shots, scoring 4 over par: 76 strokes. The Notre Dame-West Burlington Nike Boys took down the Burlington Greyhounds on the Tennis Court Last Night, winning 8-1. Burlington’s Girls squad had better luck, they downed Keokuk 6-3. Kernels Drop Bees

The Burlington Bees lost last night against the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the finale of a three game series last night. kernels won 5-2. Bees set out on a six game road trip starting tonight, when they take on Beloit. Chicago Cubs saw victory last night in a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Double Trouble for Bees

An eighth inning double spelled trouble for the Burlington Bees last night as they dropped their second game in a three game series to the Kane County Cougars, 4-3. 4th Ranked SCC Blackhawks took down Indian Hills 4-3. In High School Tennis the Notre Dame-West Burlington Girls beat Burlington 8-1. Fort Madison downed Keokuk 6-3. Former Patriots Star, Aaron Hernandez, Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

Former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez has been found guilty of first-degree murder. A Massachusetts jury on Wednesday found Hernandez killed Odin Lloyd on June 17, 2013. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee. He was found shot six times in an industrial park less than a mile from Hernandez’s home. At the time, Hernandez had a $40 million contract with the Patriots. Continue Reading
