A NEW LONDON TEEN HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE VICTIM OF A FATAL ACCIDENT SATURDAY NITE ON HIWAY-34, NEAR JIMTOWN ROAD. EMMA RITCHEY WAS KILLED WHEN THE SUV HER MOTHER WAS DRIVING REAR-ENDED AN AUGER BEING PULLED BY A WESTBOUND TRACTOR. DES MOINES COUNTY DEPUTIES SAY RITCHEY WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD SHORTLY AFTER THE CRASH…BONNIE COOPER WAS INJURED, BUT NOT BADLY ENOUGH TO BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL…AND THE MAN DRIVING THE TRACTOR, DAN BURNETT OF ILLINOIS, WAS NOT HURT. The Port of Burlington is “going green” thanks to Alliant Energy and the Burlington Renewable Energy Committee. The committee installed a solar photovoltiac system on the roof of the Port which supplies some, but not all, of the energy needed to run the building. The new system also features a display inside the Port that shows how much energy the system is generating, which was provided by a $2,650 grant from Alliant. BEIRUT (AP) _ Syria’s government reportedly has received the first shipment of
long-range air defense missiles from Russia.
Syrian President Bashar Assad confirmed the shipment on Hezbollah TV.
Israel has carried out several airstrikes in Syria in recent months that are
believed to have destroyed weapons shipments bound for Hezbollah.
Israel said earlier this week that it was prepared to use force to stop more
