Obituaries Wednesday March 27th

Dorothy Maxine Harwood, 74, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa.  She was born October 3, 1938 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse Edward and Sarah Jane Beghtol Land.  On June 5, 1954 she married Harold Franklin Harwood Sr. they were later divorced.  He died October of 1997.

She was a nurse at Burlington Medical Center and Burlington Care Center and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Montrose, Iowa.

Dorothy enjoyed nursing the old fashioned way with care and concern.  While studying to be a nurse she achieved high grades.  She liked reading the Bible, mystery novels and watching westerns on TV.  She enjoyed the game backgammon, sewing and crocheting.  The family was in trouble if they ran out of chocolate milk.

She is survived by two sons, Harold Harwood and William Harwood, both of Burlington, Iowa; three daughters, Vicky (Pedro) Maestro of Montrose, Iowa, Marian Shaver of Burlington, Iowa and Marsha Darlene (Wayne) Metz of Ft. Madison, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; one brother John V. Land of Revere, Missouri; five sisters, Martha Janette Roberts and Barbara Peterson, both of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Bonnie Stills of Pleasant Hills, Iowa and Carole Olson of Waukee, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, one brother, two sisters, two grandchildren and two best friends, Donna Wunderlich and Bonny Exline.

Funeral Services will be held in The First Church of the Nazarene in Montrose, Iowa, Friday, March 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage, Illinois at 2:00 p.m.  Pastor Preston Smith will officiate.
