Obituaries Tuesday April 2nd

Lois Ann Marks, 74, of Burlington, died at Blair House, Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday, March 31, 2013.

Born on February 25, 1939 in San Diego, California, she was the daughter of William Francis and Alice Ruth Howell Mundell.

Lois was a homemaker and worked in housekeeping and manufacturing businesses.

She was an avid television watcher and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and animals. She was of the Baptist faith.

 

She is survived by one son, John (Jodi Claeys) Marks of West Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents; one brother, Charles Lewis Mundell; and one sister, Mary J. Baucom.

No formal services are planned, cremation has been accorded. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Animal Shelter. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.

 

Franklin Thomas White, 72, of Burlington, Iowa, died at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Born on November 9, 1940 in Moline, Illinois, he was the son of Franklin Thomas and Gladys Maxwell Morrison White Sr. He married Bonnie Marie Roxlau on December 2, 1967 in Dexter, Iowa by Rev. Chuck White.

 

Tom was a graduate of Morning Sun High School.

 

He was a salesman for Chittenden & Eastman Co., owned and operated White Metal Products in Morning Sun and was as a salesman for Bankers Advertising. Tom had a passion for trains and model layout sets that he constructed and enjoyed.

 

He loved working in the yard and home repair projects. He was an avid book reader and loved book sales. He was a blood and organ donor.

 

He was a member and served as Exalted Ruler for BPOE #84 and was member of the Burlington/West Burlington Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he donated countless hours with paint-a-thon and other church projects. He also served on the church property committee and as an elder.

 

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; one daughter, Terri (Jeff) Huddleston of Burlington, Iowa; one son, Jeff White of Burlington, Iowa; two grandchildren, Lauren and Jordan Huddleston of Burlington, Iowa; one brother, Chuck (Judy) White of Mooresville, North Carolina; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A casual “come as you are” memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 9:00 until 9:15 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. Deb Kinney will officiate. The family will be present for a time of food and fellowship following the service until 11:00 a.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the First Presbyterian Church, Hope Haven Area Development Center and the Des Moines Co. Animal Shelter.

Mrs. Marjorie Jean Humphries, 86, of New London, died Monday, April 1, 2013.  According to her wishes, her body has been cremated and private family inurnment will be held in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.  Elliott Chapel, New London is in charge of arrangements.

 

Margaret Ellen Dunne, 85, of Burlington, died at 9:45 PM, Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Blair House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Born May 20, 1927, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Marie Marguerite Champagne Dunne.

 

Margaret was a secretary at several area companies and retired as secretary from the former St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  She then was a nanny to her great niece and nephew.  

 

She graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1945.

 

She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington and a member of the choir.  She also sang in the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

 

Survivors include two sisters, Kathleen McLean of Bel Air, MD, and Joan (Leonard) Buch of Fairfield, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Rev. John Dunne, James Dunne and Bernard Dunne, and two sisters Adrienne Dunne and Anne Snyder.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Dunne will be 10:30 AM Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere officiating.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

 

Memorials have been established for Burlington Notre Dame Schools and Great River Hospice.
